shiite has just been recently created by the western media .... the actual word is Shiia and it is pronounced (shee ah)

Shi'it = She eat
the shi'is are also known as shia = she ah
they are the second largest islamic denomination and very opposed to the sunni, even their books of traditions differ but i personally find the shi'a far much better and wiser than the sunni traditions...

I think it's pronounced: "She-ite"
Also, my arabic is rusty, but from wikipedia, I get that it translates into "party" or "following".
