My father was born on an Indian Reservation in Arizona. How can I find out genetically the percentage of native american that I am? Also can the testing tell you what kind of Native American you are?

Hey Love 2 Bake,

You can take a DNA Test. And, you can do your Genealogy. Combined, you will have documentation, and blood evidence that you are some percent Native American.

Here are some sites to get you started on the DNA. The first is FREE. The others have specalized families, or Global projects, I think the Free one is worth your time and effort. You may need to pay for shipping the test kits.

For you Genealogy. Start with records. Births, Deaths, Marriages of you, your parents, their parents, etc. As much as you can collect from the family. You can get records for they also form other sources. You need to prove up to those that are already accepted as some percent. Each person on your tree must be included. Then the rest is math.

From the Genealogy, you will know what is known on the Reservation about the tribe your ancestors came from. The DNA will definately link to a specific tribe - but you must have others that are known to be of the specific tribe in the DNA grouping, and that means focus in the testing groups. This part could get complicated. See what you get for free first!

Last, backup your document research with your DNA Results.

Included are some Native American sites also, that may be of some assistance. Also, this could take some time, so have persistence.

I agree with Bcone. Try contacting them. Also, if you can find the address to the Native American Reservation your father was born on maybe you can call and see if they have recoreds that document your ancestors and can get a valid percentage that way. I hope you find out.

the two large Grandparents: a hundred% Grandmother, parent of your mom (toddler of above, each of that's a hundred%) a hundred% interior sight American. uncertain how somebody could say she became in basic terms 50% whilst her mothers and dads have been a hundred%. remains at a hundred% till there is a few mixture extra. parent (toddler of above- your mom) 50% interior sight american ancestry, 50% ecu (dutch is a nationality extra desirable than an ethnicity) You: 25% interior sight american, seventy 5% of ecu descent (the two german and dutch are in many cases heavily suitable genetically). Are you interior sight american? No. American of direction, yet basically your ancestry, seventy 5%, is ecu (before widely used as caucasian). are you able to be on a tribal or indian usa function? possibly, when you consider that a number of them bypass all the way down to 3/sixteen blood ancestry. If the two your large grandparents have been of the comparable tribe, you would be 25% for that tribe. yet whilst they have been blended tribes, then possibly not. Your grandmother must be 50/50 between 2 tribes, your grandfather must be one tribe or usa or additionally a mix. in basic terms discover out which they have been, and initiate from there. maximum greater tribes and indian international locations have web content to examine.

First just because your father was born on an Indian reservation doesn't by itself mean you are Indian. Does your father have a roll number ? if so your problem is simple just get your documentation birth , death , marriage etc.,and write to tribal headquarters with your information. proving you are a descendant from him if he doesn't have a roll number you have to trace your genealogy back to a person who is on the roll and then PROVE that you are that persons descent ant. to get benfits from any tribe you have to be a member of that tribe. there are many people who have Indian blood but because their ancestor did not sign up on the roll they are unable to get a roll number. good luck
