I think it is because atheism requires faith just as much as any other religion does..

What do you think?

Yes atheism is a religion!

It is definitely as religion because as you said it takes faith to believe in something of this magnitude. To take a step out into a belief that there is no divinity. An educated atheist actually realises that it is even harder to believe than any other religion because there less material other than the thoughts of men to support their radical belief. What makes the logic of man so mighty? Some say religion is bad for the world and people can get brainwashed. The same is true for politics so should we cease to believe in politics or disagree with all politics because we think its bad for people?

Atheists need to start realising that they would not hold all the information there is to know about life, and if they have not heard all the arguements for God from the differing religions and denominations, then they should at least admit the possibility. Then many may stop becoming so hard lined and a little more tolerant to religious groups beliefs.

I would say no. By it's self it is not. Just as the belief in God by it's self is not a religion. Religion may have as a foundation the belief in God, but that alone is not a religion. If someone believes that God does not exist, and they hold a set of beliefs based on that belief that they live their life by, then that would be a religion. For example, buhdism recognizes that there is a spiritual world, but the Idea of God, a creator, or a supreme being is not a part of it. The same could be said of hinduism. Those are not just beliefs on the nature of the universe, but beliefs of how people should live their lives based on their beliefs. Atheism does not include a set of standard doctrines that people follow and that guides them.

Well I'm an athiest, and I don't consider it a religion. It's just a way of thinking. A real religion has customs, values, tradition, and all religions hold a place of worship such as a mosque or church. Athieism is just believing what can be proven and what can be seen. When I look outside and see all the trees and different creatures, I just see nature for what it is. I do really love animals though, and feel a strong connection to them, I see evolution in them.

No. Look up the definition of religion in your dictionary...atheism simply doesn't apply. Do you believe in unicorns? No? Well is that your religion? The Church of Unicorn Disbelief? Sounds absurd huh? So does calling atheism a religion. Philosophy would be a much more intelligent wording.

I don't care much for labels. If any, I would be an "agnostic, doubtful, free-thinking atheist". Since it's a kinda long label, I prefer to simply be called Mark.

One of the biggest questions we all wanna have answered is 'where do we go after we die?'. It's one of the questions mst religions answer with heaven, hell, valhalla, after-life, reincarnation, etc, etc.

Mainly atheists will believe that we just die, and after that nothing happens. We get burried or cremated, and that's it. No afterlife, no heavens, nothing.

But you're right, it requires faith to believe that. We all simply have no clue what will happen after we die. I always find it funny to hear an atheist say 'I don't believe in anything without proof'.

I never saw any proof for what happens to us after we die. All options require a certain amount of faith.

I disagree, atheism requires no faith. The disbelief in Santa Clause isn't a religion just like the disbelief in god(s) isn't a religion.

Atheism is not a religion

What I disbelieve requires no faith. Do you have to have faith that a Santa is fake? No? Same thing.

I think it's dumb that we have all these people now trying to tell US what OUR way is (rather then letting us speak for us) and demanding that it's a religion...while many Christians here now keep saying that theirs is NOT a religion! For cripe sake Alice, get your @ss back on the right side of that looking glass and out of mirror land!

I think you might consider atheism an anti-religion.

Nope.
"Religion is a system of social coherence based on a common group of beliefs or attitudes concerning an object, person, unseen being, or system of thought considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine or highest truth, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions, and rituals associated with such belief or system of thought"

Nothing in atheism matches that.
