Japan!!! If you aint interested give me your social security # and meat me in a couple days. Me and you can switch Identities and I'll have the time of my life drinking suki and singing Kareoke while you serve one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year in the Alabama National Guard. I can just see my self in a Kareoke bar now with a bunch of Japanees guy and girls cheering me on to sing another verse of sweet home alabama. Do it and enjoy your self.

Kadena AFB is a great place to be stationed if you are in the Air Force. Located in a central location, you can get to anywhere in Okinawa without much effort. There are great restaurants all around the front gate, as well as fantastic sushi bars and Irish pubs. The base itself has tons of recreational facilities, a pretty nice BX, commissary, and restaurants (The steak house on base is a must try!). All that is just in Okinawa. When you want to take leave, Tokyo is a short plane ride away. From there, you can go to anywhere in the Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand quite easily. I enjoyed my time there. Plus, military benefits these days are awesome. You don't really appreciate what the military gives you until you don't have them anymore. Free medical, free dental, BX, Commissary, BAH, College benefits such as Tuition Assistance, free gym, pool, base theater, a steady paycheck... I'd say do it!

You should definately take this opportunity! My husband is stationed in Okinawa right now and I just got back a few months ago, and it is BEAUTIFUL! The weather is fabulous-- There is tons of stuff to do and see so you will never get bored! (My husband scuba dives and the pictures are amazing!)-- The food is pretty decent too, but if you aren't a fan of Japanese food, there is a Chili's and Macaroni Grill on the bases... And of course the usual Taco Bell, etc. ... Like someone said before, when are you ever going to have a chance to go again?!

But, on the other hand, if you have something better to do, it may be tough being away from home for so long!-- Just do what you think is best for you!

I stayed in Okinawa for two years (voluntarily extended) because it was great. Of course that was '99-'01 and things have changed since then.

I'm positive that there have been more liberty restrictions imposed but you will still have a great time as long as you don't do anything stupid.

Explore the island, take some of the tours (Battlesights Tour is interesting), and take it easy. If you get any opportunities to deploy to Camp Fuji (you should get liberty in Tokyo) or anywhere else jump at them. Thailand and Australia are common, too. Things could be worse.

it's really up to you. I'm from Japan and have been to Okinawa. It's a small island closed to Hawaii. it never snows.

Okinawa has a beautiful beach, and I love it. 75% of the island is U.S. military base. like i said, it's a small island, so it's not like a big city, Tokyo.

i don't know if you're gonna like it, but find somone who has been there and talk to them.

Japan is AWESOME! My husband is currently stationed in Yokosuka, and (though the command itself can be pricks at times) living conditions, safety, real *freedom* can be had here like I haven't seen in a *long* time back home. *3* year olds walk to preschool, *by themselves* down busy highways... not because of lack of care by the parents, but because it is *that safe*. If you've family, Japan is the place to be!

You asked the same question about being stationed at Hawaii under the same circumstances. Whats the deal is it Hawaii or Japan?

Sometimes if you get out for awhile and then go talk to your local recruiter you stand a better chance of getting something you like better.
