Well, winter is going to come up soon and I was thinking about having my nephew come over and do some outdoor work for me. He lives down the road so he could walk over and do them while I'm at work. Things like rake leaves, mow the lawn, put up some christmas tree lights and whatnot. Well I also, have a a tree that is fallen down in the yard and I was going to leave the chainsaw out for him to just chop it up and then stack the logs up in back corner next to the fence. It's gas operated and has a fairly easy start for it, as well as a guard. My nephew plays baseball so I think he has good hand eye coordination. Only problem is I don't know if its legal if i'm not at the house. He's a good kid though.

Not sure if its illegal, but it sure is stupid, what if after you have let him use it he wants to show one of his mates how he can chop down a tree? Think of all the things that could go wrong!
he is 9 yrs old , he will have a tendencey to want to show off .

You don't have any children do you????? Whether or not it's illegal is only part of the problem here. Let's see , 9 years old is 4th grade, My son is 8 and in 3rd grade, I dont even let him handle a steak knife alone and you are talking about a CHAINSAW. The other thing is , why are you planning on having him over when you are not home. Is his mother aware of all of this. I would never never never let me 9 year old child walk over to his Uncle's house ALONE and then do OUTDOOR work while nobody is home. I am not trying to be crude here, but this all sounds real nutty to me. Where are you from? Please rethink this. Does his mother know about all this????? If she thinks it's okay , she is as crazy as you are.

Now it's people like you that worry me.I understand you want your Nephew to know how to earn his keep...But unless I am behind the times NOT I am absolutely sure he shouldn't be using a chainsaw or any other electrical dangerous equipment supervised or unsupervised. It has nothing to do with hand eye coordination, it has more to do with maturity and good decision making and the answer is HELL NO, NE, NADA, NIET, DAH

If it's not, it should be! Chainsaws are very dangerous pieces of equipment, and there's a lot of things that could go wrong there. I appreciate you desire to get your nephew working, maybe making some money from his aunt...but it sounds like you have plenty of other little jobs for him to do. :)

It is illegal!!!! There is no way a nine year old should be handling a chainsaw. How would you feel if he hurt or killed himself with it??, which would very likely happen! Does his mother know you're considering letting him do this? If my brother did something like that or even suggested such a thing with my child I would never allow him around my child again!!!!! Reconsider please, that is crazy talk.

Yeah , well I have a use to be eleven year old friend who use to be a allstar every year now he can only hop on his new leg taken by a chain saw. I know a grown man that is no longer with us because chain saws .If they are not illegal then they should be.

He's too young. Best not to let him use it because an underage child using a heavy duty piece of machinery can cause legal complications if he manages to chop off his arm instead. Why don't you do it yourself so there's no hassle anyhow.

I don't 'see a problem with it. I was playing with chainsaws since I was 7. It might be a good idea to share a beer or two with him first, to calm his nerves -since it's his first time and all.

No it's not illegal. If he cut his arm or leg off, he'll grow new one. It's good charcter building for him to use chain saw at a such young age.
