It's the alcohol in the mouthwash that burns. Alcohol kills germs.

If you consider a 43 proof alcohol* to kill germs, then yes, it is killing germs.

IMO, i think the burning is equivalent to putting rubbing alcohol on a cut. The alcohol are touching the nerves and it "burns".

*Listerine is 21.6% alochol. 1 percent ~ 2 proof. But I wouldn't drink the stuff because of the other germ killers in it.

It's the chemical reaction that's taking place in your mouth. Rinsing "detonates" the reaction, so it doesn't necessarily mean it's killing the germs. Mouthwash contains Hydrochloric acid by the way.

Yes,it's the alcohol.If it burnes your mouth,then it burnes the germs too.
