Since god says to stone the sinner it's kind of irrelevant whether you hate the sinner or not. He won't really care if he's being killed by those who love him or hate him?

It's not non-sense. We are to hate the sin but not the sinner, if we are christians. God loves every sinner. Christ died for every sinner and also loves every sinner. If God loves sinners, how could I do any less and call myself a christian. But there are many evil acts, wrong lifestyles, evil worldviews and philosophies and even religions. Very few people would disagree with me that we should hate the Nazi philosophy. Most people would disagree with me when I say that we should love Nazis. But they are people too. God loves them. We can't let them have their way in society. Society must have rules and if they violate those rules they must be dealt with. But they are not dogs in the street. We should hate the sin and love the sinner.

My Bible teaches me that God hates sin and loves the sinner. We are nobody when we ask for forgiveness. That is like having a newborn baby and expecting him to be fully educated at birth. God know we are humans and he loves as we are and he wants to get rid of the sin in our life. He hates the sin that has this world in such turmoil. He will return to take us out of here someday.

Love the sinner . . . as in love your neighbor as yourself, although you don't condone the sin. Christ did not hesitate to associate with sinners and let's face it, we all have areas in our life that is not pure.

As for hating the saying, love the sinner, but hate the sin . . . if that is what it takes for someone who is very pious to reach out to those around them, then I vote we keep the expression. You can't share any common ground with someone if you label them and reject them first.

I don't hate either. Though I do struggle to avoid it I realize that it is through sin that we learn to avoid sin. Think about it, who would even know that this action (sin) should not be done if someone hadn't done it, and learned the lesson the hard way? Even rules and advice come from previous experience.
If we behave ideally, then we learn from our mistakes; the sin is gone but the lesson remains.

It isn't nonsense. Sin can destroy a life, absolutely destroy it. People get ensnared in sin and don't know how to get out. The bible says satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. That is what sin does. I hate what sin can do to people.

I love and pray for all those ensnared by sin, whether they realize they are......or not.
