I mean, my husband smokes and we have two little girls and he won't smoke in front of them, but they still know he does it and my daughter (she's 3) once said that she needed a smoke. That is such a bad example to set for our kids and it really is disgusting as well. What is the draw of stinking the place up like that and possibly getting lung cancer at the same time?

With smoking, you are not only addicted to the nicotine, but the action of doing something with your hands, and social aspects too. One of the things I miss most about smoking is being able to light up with a group of friends, especially out at the bars. Your brain makes all kinds of excuses why you SHOULD keep doing something you are addicted to, even though you know you shouldnt.

Well believe it or not, it feels good.
Relieves stress, relaxing after food/sex, and absolutely necessary when having a few beers.
I smoked about ten years, I didn't quit because I wanted to be rid of it. I quit because I want to be alive. But I do still crave the feeling it gave sometimes, at the right moment.
It's addictive physically, and mentally. The physical we can do without.... that is possible. It's the mental part that's tough. I've quit about a year now. I expect I'll always want a smoke sometimes, but I won't ever get hooked on those things again!

the draw is that smokings addictive. Its hard to understand how addicting it actually is unless your a smoker. Im 18 and when I was younger all my friends smoked, and i thought it was disgusting ( i still do ) and i prided myself on not smoking, but one day me and my friend tried it and smoked 3 ciggaretes and liked it. we contiunued smoking every once in a while, and about 4 weeks later we each bought our own pack. Its been 3 years now, and as much as i hate smoking i cant imagine life without it.
I feel weak for being a slave for tobacco componies, but its horably hard to quit. ive tried a number of times without succeeding- the only good thing is that im still young so i still have chance of quitting before its too late.

I see where you're coming from, but its just another vice. Some people are addicted to sugar and fatty foods, which can have a very bad effect on the body, and also sets a bad influence for young children. Most people have a vice.

The "draw" is that nicotine is addictive.

Denial is also part of the issue. It's easy to pretend that smoking doesn't harm or kill anyone, since the noticeably harmful impact is significantly delayed.

I can totally see your point.

I do not smoke ciggies. I do, on occasion smoke a fattie... but that is like once a month. ( Not that i'm saying i'm better than smokers ).

I think smoking is wrong... but people will do what they will do.

People will always smoke, knowing it can kill you the same way having unprotected sex can kill you.... no difference.

Just my thoughts...

Not much different than people drinking. A little is okay but most people go way overboard. Could be said for many other things - not enough exercise, too much tv, etc.
