Religious / spiritual people get offended by insensitive questions because to them, God is like a really good friend or relative, beyond that, really. If you were in a situation where people were relentlessly insulting your mom, or your best friend since childhood, or someone whom you deeply admire, how would you react?

best thing to do is not ask then. people get insulted because its a very personal thing, and they dont want anyone to try to change their beliefs or insult them, its only natural. the only thing to do is not to ask, instead, discuss between friends and peers who are mature enough to have an intelligent convo :)

well I would guess it is because ones religion and beliefs are very personal to them and when ones religion is insulted they take it as if they were insulted....
