because there are bacteria in the air, and if the food is left out, the bacteria will reproduce quicker. In the fridge, they still go on the food, but the cool temp keeps them from multiplying quickly.

Because if you don't refrigerate it after it's been cooked it'll go bad. A certain temperature has to be maintained to one degree or another or the food will spoil and you can get sick if you eat it.

Because of bacteria (including mold) is in the air and on the food. If the food is left between 41 degress and 140 degress, it is the perfect environment for the bacteria to reproduce rapidly.
If you can keep the food bellow 40 degress it will slow down the growth of the bacteria. temps below the freezing point can even kill some of the bacteria.

So it doesn't go bad...but you really should wait for the hot food to cool down before sticking it in the fridge. why--i have no clue.

we put leftovers in the fridge to keep it from spoiling. cold temperature keeps germs from multiplying as fast as it does in open air. but still,bacteria is present so you should not let it stay in the fridge for too long.

to keep it from spoiling and for eating it again for the next meal or snack...cost of food is expensive .........
