Actually either purple or red cabbage is correct. You can call it purple cabbage. It just depends upon what part of the country you live in as to what the most popular name is. (also, some varieties are more red and some more purple).
Also here is a side fact: If you use red or purple cabbage as a way to dye easter eggs or yarn, it turns out a beautiful robin egg blue!

That's a good question. Well I've never had red cabbage before, but now I'm about the buy some next time that I go grocery shopping.
A lot of foods have strange names, and one just wonders why?

Once upon a time men went around naming certain things. Men are generally non-descript when it comes to colors and occassionally color blind. A lot of things that could be more correctly characterized using a different color name ended up being called red. There is a flowering bush for example called red bud, but its flowers are more fuschia than anything. I would recommend if you want to eat cabbage of any kind try it chopped up, raw, and mixed in with your salad greens. Unless you want something like craut then cook it to death.

It's call red because it's not green. To keep it's color it is cooked slowly with salt and vinegar and if you don't do that it lightens up and gets a little redder.

you're able to be able to bypass in many instructions. Jewel tones artwork somewhat stable with purple. i for my section like purple and function bursts of it throughout in my place of living. I decide to pair it with a leafy eco-friendly, pumpkin orange, a golden yellow...only pick on somewhat some hues which you like and repeat them on your upload-ons. have relaxing!
