Does an accidental crime count?
When I was in my late 20s, I took a friend grocery shopping. I picked up a pack of cigarettes and while helping her unload the cart, stuck them in my jacket pocket then forgot about them.
Later, 45 minutes, when we got to her house and unloaded the groceries, I stuck my hand in the pocket and discovered the cigarettes.
I had to go back to the store and pay for them. I was a little embarrassed about it, but it was an accident.
The owner actually thanked me for coming back in and paying. And even though I was free and in the clear without him even knowing I'd taken them, I just couldn't deal with the fact that I'd taken them.
