NO...as a wedding dj, I can tell you that it does not have to be slow. I have seen first dance songs done in several different ways. Generally the reason for the slow song is that it allows for that perfect Kodak moment. I have seen a couple do a swing song for their first dance. It was great and if fit the couple well. You should do what fits you and your fiance best. Just keep in mind that at some point during the song, people would like to have that cute, we are dancing together for the first time photo.

I am a Wedding D.J and I have many couples use upbeat songs as their fast dance. In fact a lot of them go to dance class and practice a dance for that particular song. They use Big Band, Top 40 you name it!

Mine was a country song by Kenny Chesny, 'You had me at hello.' Not everyone is a country fan so that might not work for you. The first song should be something that symbolizes the two of you as a couple. What are some traits or things that you remember about the first time you met or a first date? And try to figure out a song that would go with that. That's why I picked my song.

No, it doesn't have to be super slow.
I danced to "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon. It's not a FAST song, but it isn't a slow one either. My dad lead me in a fast two-step for it.
I love the song because it isn't all mushy and lovey. Granted, I love my father, but I'm not a mushy person. But my father would do anything for me, and that's kind of what the song is about.

No! It's totally up to you. I have been to many weddings in my life and I can tell you that each couple does what works for them, and it never looks bad. In this day and age there is no right or wrong when it comes to weddings.

I dont think it NEEDS to be a slow song but it defanatly should be a song that defines your relationship. I think slow songs are just a nice romantic way to show your love and affection during your first moments of marrige.Which is a good thing.

I think your first dance should be a slow song. A song thats not too slow and boring. A slow song could be "Forever" by Shania Twian or "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias. But its all up to you. Its your choice if you want it a slow song or not.

It can definitely be upbeat. It should just have some sort of meaning for you and your fiance. We don't have a song picked yet, but there's a good chance ours will be from Moulin Rouge.

no, not at all! have you seen that one Everybody Loves Raymond show, when Raymonds brother is getting married, and him and his new wife are doing a choreographed dance? its pretty neat and something different. not the same old slow dance that people usually do, while everybodys just sitting there staring at you. it would be more fun for you and your guests to see you guys shake it together!
