My drywaller (husband) did a sloppy job drywalling and I can see seams and cracks, is there something besides wallpaper I can put on the walls? I was thinking ragging (paint) might look all right, any input helpful.

Get your self a 5 gal bucket of topping joint compound (light blue cap) mix with a little water and then get a texturing brush and stomp it out. While its drying you can knock off the points with a wide drywall knife or knock it down with a pole sander. Paint it self will not cover this up effectively.

Lots of answers here are good, but if it was my walls, I would put venetian plaster and then a nice paint job. Yes, ragging would be okay too, but make sure if you do it, don't use any shiny paint at all because the shinier the paint is, the more you'll see the faults...

Have you thought about sanding it down and putting up some wallpaper? It's all the rage and you can get some really fantastic wallpaper patterns now.

Enjoy, whatever you do.... you can always have hubby start over again, now that he's got some practice in! LOL!

There are numerous things that I have seen done to disguise bad walls. Color washing is very effective. Also I have seen a beautiful room that was painted with one color and then a feather duster was lightly dipped in a darker color and tapped all over the walls. It made it look like wallpaper. You can also buy textured wallpaper that covers many mistakes.

The best way to hide a sloppy drywalling job is to hide it under a fresh, thick coat of joint compound. Hire a professional while your husband is out, then compliment him on how much it improved when it finally dried out.

Heavier wallpaper will cover minor defects in drywall finish.. if not, consider Upholestery, paintings, quilts, egg cartons...etc.

you could cover it up with a long tapestry or a picture frame or get a long piece of nice designed cloth and staple it to the wall and get some panelling from home depot and make it look like a huge picture or ask your professional drywaller to correct his work...??

You can put up paneling or have someone come in to sand it down and redo it. If you don't have money you can sand it down with a sanding block and use a 4 inch or bigger putty knife and reapply the mud to smooth out and sand smooth and then it is ready to paint.

Sand paint (paint with bits of sand in it) goes a long way to hide the type of imperfections you are talking about.

Bamboo wall covering is becoming very popular. You could use the natural bamboo or bamboo cloth for wallpaper.

Put a pic of your ex-boyfriend on there. Tell hubby when he can do a better job instead of half-assed, you'll remove it.
