I closed my bank account after my bankruptcy and now I need to get a new checking account for bills. I had 2 things from my last bank account dropped due to the bankruptcy but know they put it in check system for non payment and I can't open any new accounts. From the info I got it can be on for up to 5 year, just want to know if that is legal for them to do that since it was discharged through my bankruptcy and does anyone know of a bank that would allow me to open up a new checking account? I need an account where I get real checks to right, not the electronic checking kind. Thanks for our help!

When you go into a bank to open a checking account let them know up front you filed bankruptcy and that when they check through chex system that something will come up that was discharged through your bk. I would also bring along the bk papers to prove it. They may need it for their records. Also, call around to all the banks and credit unions to see what reporting system they use. If they don't use chex system that is the bank you want to deal with.

when in doubt about anything related to your credit or a bankruptcy visit this website. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/credit/coninfo.htm
but if you filed it in bankruptcy, those banks cannot collect so i think it would be improper for them to put them in a check system. I would find out the company name for the check system and let them know that those items were included in a bankruptcy.

There are credit cards available that are really debit cards.

You deposit money into the 'account' and then can use the card to pay for your needs.

Contact Master Card or Visa for details.
