I think she is playing a game. Like "look what I have" "come and get it". I bet when you bring her a chewie you play with her and tell her to get it. She is just having fun. Hiding food is a dogs way of saving it for later when they have more room in their bellies for it, but hiding toys is all about the fun!

She has deviced a game by her rules that y'all can participate in... Be Happy!!
Remi (my carolina dog) created this game we called Rut, Rut, Roe based on the sounds he makes. It took us a while to get trained at the game. It is played in the backyard. He sits a toy on the ground & herds person player into one place & then him in another place further away from the toy - they he says "Rut, Rut, Roe" and takes off running for the toy -- after some time, we realized he was wanting the person player to run for the same toy & see who gets there first.
I think he must have gotten the idea from Mark, Set, Go racing games that my neices play in the backyard :)
He also learned Peek-A-Bo from them when they were smaller. He got frustrated when we didn't realize he was playing to... now we get it :)

Boy has she got you trained! She must be really smart - smart enough to have a sense of humor! She probably just wants to get your attention and has found a really effective way to go about it. If you see her looking for a place to hide one, and time allows, play with her a while. Smart dogs get bored especially easily. You're lucky she doesn't get into mischief looking for something to do. She must be very good!

It's the same game a two year person plays in the high chair, ( drop the keys for mom or dad to get). just smile, dogs are people too.
LoL at the comment about being well trained, my two dogs and my cat think the same about me. lol

She wants to play! It sounds like she is not being played with enough to satiate her needs. What you need to do is perform some behavior therapy as well as give her more play time. There are appropriate times to play and inappropriate times to play.
Take her outside and play with her for 20-30 minutes each day. Do it only outside so that she knows and associates play time with outdoors. After you go back inside, do not given in to her barks to play indoors--indoor time is not for play. Hopefully once a day will be enough to placate her.

She needs as much attention as you can give her. Several others are right. She is making a game for you. When you find it, you should have someone take her in another room while you hide it for her. It will be great fun for her. Although her sense of smell will lead her directly to it...

Sounds like your dog wants to switch roles for a while, I had a rottweiller that refused to fetch... so we went to go get it,...till we caught on that she didn't think she was a dog, she was a family pet... and as a member of the family, she no longer had to go get it. :) they have a sense of humors too you know...
