In response to one of my questions some one told me "Why will you trust philosophers? they cared nothing about your eternal destiny. they didn't give their life so that you could live." The question was about Atlantis and its impact on Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Who dose pondering the possibility of Atlantis' existance and its impact on the world if it were found have anything to do with the Christian view points on salvation? And also was not Jesus from a certain point of view a philosopher? I am a former Christian and mean no ofense to Christians or their beliefs by asking this question; I am just curious that is all.

Here is a link to the question:

It sounds like whoever answered the question has been brainwashed. The two do not relate. Atlantis would have nothing to do with salvation.

The only difference between a philosopher and a prophet is the religious dogma attached. They all have there own philosophies on things, and saying that a non Christian never died for what they believed is just ignorance. Remember Galileo was burned at the stake by Christians for his belief that the Earth revolved around the sun.

Unless I am mistaken, is not a philosopher one who ponders the meaning of life (or is this not at least one aspect of a philosopher)? This is very different from Christ, who, as it is written in the Scriptures, created the heaven and earth and has complete sovereignty over every power and authority...and who is the one who reveals truth to man?

As Jesus said in John 15, "If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- the Spirit of truth."

Philosophy and christianity are not altogether at different ends of the spectrum. Much of a Christian's life is based on the philosophy that Christ espoused and taught. It is better to look at it from a "What is truth?" perspective. Not alll philosophy is truth.
