That's a very good question. Are these stories retold versions of older stories? Well, I have no idea. But I do believe that those of us that worship, most likely worship the same God, just in a different light.
The Christian Angel is an example, a borrow image of the Goddess Nike.
The significant difference is that the older Pantheons preached that their Gods saved humanity of Chaos. Greeks mythology would say that humanity rose from the ashes of the Titans.
The Norse God Odin, was said to have hung himself upside down over Yggdrasil ( Life tree ), gouge out his right eye, bled into a pool of water and from there saw the runes that man could use to tell of things divine.
So, barring the differences in origin, I guess it's possible.

well, only christians believe that eve caused the downfall of mankind. the people who wrote the bible did not intend for this to be the moral of the story, so really these two stories are unrelated.
as for the flood, there are flood myths in every nation of the world. why should the ancient hebrews be an exception? most likely everybody remembered a big flood that to their perception must have seemed to cover the entire world, but in those times most of the world was unknown to them so they didn't know any better. this event stayed in the collective memory and was passed down and exaggerated over time and eventually became mythology.

If you are Christian and belive the Bible is true then you'll see lot's of other belief systems telling the same stories through different means. No one is ripping anyone off. Just different ways of telling the story through the generations.
The ancient greeks also talked of a great flood. One that could have changed climate and killed large lizards...

Sure....look at all the major cultures in the world...they all have accounts of how life began, of a universal flood, etc.
This makes total sense when you take Genesis as literal history...as all the peoples were divided by language in Genesis Chapter 11, they all spread across the earth by their common languages....so since they all came from the same beginning (Noah to Adam), it only make sense that there would be such accounts in all these cultures. However, over time, it changed from Oral history to mythology.
This isn't as far fetched as you might think; look how quickly we have people believing the Holocaust was not a real event, and that was only 60 years ago.
Just more solid support for the truth of God's Word....

If, extremely of believing each Bible expert around, you need to examine scripture your self. you are going to understand Eve on no account gained that command from God. Genesis 2:22 tells us she become created after God gave Adam that command of no longer eating from one specific tree Genesis 2:17. the unique sin isn't Eve eating it, yet Adam's disobedience, then mendacity to God approximately it and blaming Eve the harmless whilst he knew she did no longer understand! Many believers are deceived via the deceiver in Genesis 3 whilst Eve and the snake talk with regard to the command. Eve extremely of being counted as a reliable female for status on my own till now God, the snake, and Adam. She has been maligned along with her daughters ever on condition that that folklore become written down. interior the tip for her potential, God become merciful in punishing her with in simple terms childbirth, elevating her infants and promising her salvation could some day be through a daughter of hers. Adam become the biggest loser and believing men had greater desirable settle for the fault that Adam denied.

How long does it take for truth to fade into legend?
How long does it take for legend to become myth?
Possibly, in the Beginning, everyone knew God, and knew the truth...but, as time went by, sin continued to separate between God and men, and the truth they once knew, handed down from generation to generation, began to deteriorate? Possibly, as people began to spread out, these differences in the original stories began to be handed down as truth?
In all of these similar stories, we see mankind reaching out to God.
Does God reach down to man?
I believe He does.....
Perhaps there truly is only One Way to the Divine...but the Divine would have to provide this way, since mankind lost it, long ago??

"What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way." -- Bertrand Russell

Yes, I see the coincidence. And shame on you. You are trying to point out that in both cases a WOMAN was responsible. You are clearly a sexist traitor to your gender.
