As a responsible cat ownere, you are absolutely right in having your cat neutered - he'll live longer and will be less likely to roam far and wide in search of females. As to whether his aggressiveness will cease, from my own experience, the male cats that I have neutered grew somewhat calmer, more content to stay at home and "lounge about." But my present male (neutered) cat is naturally dominant and he does show or express aggressiveness whenever he sees an unfamiliar cat in his territory (but he just yawls, screams and poses at them without actually attacking). BUT he is definitely MUCH better now than he was before he was neutered.

The reason for fixing a cat is to prevent lots of little baby kittens from running around. But using it as a means of behavior modification may not have the results you wish. I bought two kittens from the human society. One was rather aggressive. I had them both neutered and it didn't change the behavior on either cat. Age and affection has had a more mellowing factor, then neutering.

I am a new cat owner and I find that cats are very aggressive. Fixing them seems cruel and indifferent to the fact that they are living and breathing organism. Suppose this world became land of the giants and the humans had to be fixed so we would not fire nuclear pin pricks at our masters. Would you want to get fixed. Maybe losing an arm or leg so as not to run. The latter fixing occurred without the giant stuff. Get rid of the cat. It is not a good thing to do. No, he will probably fear you for the rest of his life. He just could not tell you.

After you neuter any male he will stop being aggressive, this is a wise decision for many reasons, one you have already identified. Another, and maybe worse, is the spraying to mark his territory. If he has aggressive tendencies he's also marking. Do yourself, and your neighbors, a favor...have him neutered. You and kitty will both be much happier. You don't want him coming home all beat up all the time do you?

Probably not. People say that their animals behaviour will change once you get them fixed. Totally not true. When you get him fixed, what will they do to the cat to change his brain and how it thinks? Nothing. They are just removing their reproductive organs. It may keep them from trying to take off when they are in season but that's about it. Sorry.

Some cats do calm down after getting fixed. But it depends on the cat. Mine did calm down and became more of a lap cat after we got her spayed...but that's just her. My other male cats a couple years ago became territorial...but that doesn't happen a lot (that i know of). I hope he calms down a bit!
Take care!
