I would say more American than Christianity! Not to offend but Americans have the ability to do things to the extreme, to be better than each other, to be the best, your strain of Christianity is the same, an attempt to prove that you are better than anyone else version of the religion; that's the American way.

It's too American and not Christian enough. We've tried to make Jesus conform to our thinking as Americans and not vice versa. I've written a lot of rants on my blog about Americanized Christianity. Feel free to chime in.

one of the reasons people first came to USA and then it was insured hopefully by founding fathers -religious freedom.
we haven't yet lived up to the wishes of the founding fathers fully in this and many other areas..
we are a mostly christian nation not an only christian nation.
some Christians and other religious groups personify that early American dream some Christan and other extremists would make the founders rollover in their graves.

If I had asked this question, seven lights would have received best answer already.Xtianity is a disease in any form, but what Americans practice isn't even close to what the authors of the original Xtian faith created.I'll give the original disciples at least that much credit.Today's Xtianity is nothing more than western fundamentalism and it is what is wrong with this country period.

Definitely so. That's why we Christians have to be very careful how dogmatic and judgmental we can become. We have to be careful that we let the Word of God speak and get away from letting our Americanized viewpoints alter our interpretation of scripture. This can be said about any culture where Christianity exists, though.
For example, the conservative Christian culture in the US tends to look at social drinking of alcohol as sinful. Go to Germany, though, and Christians regularly dring beer and wine with their meals and have no problem with it at all. So I think if we are aware of how culture can affect us we can be more open and understanding as we relate to other Christians with love.

Sara,
I am trying to understand what I am supposed to think about American being used as a term to describe Christianity. I guess that I fail to see a distinction.

From a Christian, no.
And it should be, the church in general has found herself asleep, not standing as Christ wanted it to, or made it to.
But to better answer your question Christianity isn't' supposed to be American or African or Norwegian it is supposed to be Holy, righteous and GODly

Christianity is based on a poor & homeless Jewish carpenter from Nazareth. America is not a factor.
