Picasso was very original and strong-hearted on doing and painting what he wanted to paint, not what an art school taught him to paint. He stood out at very young age for his work.
Picasso & Georges Braque, first began the era of Cubism.
Which they were inspired by the later work of Cezanne, but the era of Cubism (1907 - 1920's) was first begun by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
Influenced artists- Jean Metzinger, Gris, Duchamp, and L駥r
A great quote from Picasso: "Everyone wants to understand art. Why don't people try to understand the song of a bird? Why do people love the night, the flowers and everything around us without insisting on understanding them? But when it comes to a picture, people think they must "understand" it. If only they would realise that an artist creates because he must create, that he himself is only an insignificant fragment of the world and that no more attention should be paid to him than to many other things in the world which delight us although we cannot explain them."

It's not that Picasso was a non-conformist, he simply hanged out with non-conformist artist in Paris in Montmarte. Most notably the French Poet Guilliame Apollaire, who stole the Mona Lisa from the Lourve in 1905 and hid it in Picasso's house. Apollaire was one of the founders of surrealism.

actually, Picasso didn't come up with cubism on his own. it was actually Braque who came up with the whole cubism concept, and then Picasso would perfect the technique. Picasso made the better artwork from the theories Braque came up with, so he tends to get most of the credit.
as far as being a non-conformist... most artists aren't conformists... so that is pretty vague. most major artists influenced and contributed to the art proceeding them. especially in major art movements. so, your paper topic is rather vague, to be honest.
perhaps a paper on cubism's effect on art.... or compare it to collages of modern art.
start with these links. then, try some real books from your local library or even borders...

that was a portrait painter who got famous because there were few goos artists in France getting famous or accepted due to a great deal of interferance and disrespect for artists and bohemians at the time. The spaniard painter got very known even in Turkey and Portugal. Here is a web page, you should be able to find a great deal of information there. Bye now.
