Everyone is a sinner. The 10 commandments are a standard by which we see that we are imperfect. Jesus Christ was the only man who was able to follow the 10 commandments. The rest of us need Jesus Christ because we are unable to be perfect. Believe me 80% is too high. I would think the percentage of truly born again Christians is more like 5-10%.

"Commands" might not be the best choice of words in the 21st Century English.
However,
>Thousands of years with the 10 commandments,
And many centuries before the "10 Commandments" were given.
>why have they failed?
God made humankind.
God knows how best they should live.
WHAT has failed? The Ten Commandments??
Or probably it is people who have failed. They have failed to live the way God recommended. When Christ was here, He also told of the new way ... or have you ever rad the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain?

Romans 3:23 3 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Everyone is a sinner. Christians included. The 10 commandments are not a failure, we are. We will continue to sin but we can be accountable and take it to God and ask forgiveness. He knows we will continue to sin but we keep trying to give up our sinful nature.
I can read the disdain in your words my friend. Not all Christians are hypocrites. There are some who live by Jehovah's commandments and live to do his will.
John 14:21 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
You may not see them unless you are paying attention because they are the ones doing the little things like helping the poor or homeless, making a better community. You know the non-glamorous work.

this whole questiom points exactly at one of christianities greatest flaws, which some christians claim to be its greatest strength. Christians murder, lie, cheat on their neighboors wife just as much as any other human being in this planet. Then they go and ask god for forgiveness as if nothing happen and they repeat themselves, which shows how great which this "God" christianity created is really handling the situation. Number one, the ten commandments are outdated and have proven their failure over and over again, everyone has broken one of the ten commandments at least once. In other words, the Christian God is a failure. All i have to say is that people should follow their own commandments, instead of placing faith on something which has been outdated and proven to be a failure over and over again. have faith in urselves, not in a stone tablet.

Have you read the Gospels? Jesus continually asks people to do things that are impossible to do. Just as it was with the law... for instance the law said that committing adultery is a sin. Jesus came along and said if you even look as someone with lust in your heart it is a sin... Or, how about the rich young man who came to Jesus and asked him what he should do to inherrit heaven - he claimed to have followed the law perfectly. Jesus told him go and sell everything you own and give it to the poor. The man went away sad - he knew he could not do it... Jesus knew he couldn't do it - that is exactly why Jesus told him to do it.
But, why would he do that - knowing that people can not live up to that standard??? Because he wants them to abandon their pride and abandon their self righteous attitude and come to a clear understanding of how much they have missed the mark and are in despirate need of a Saviour. The work of the Law is to convict the sinner of his/her sin. People who can not acknowledge their own sinfulness do not have access to the Grace of God. People who can see that their own righteousness is as filthy rags compared to God's righteousness - only then will can a person experience God's grace... and God's righteousness as thier own through Christ.
For a believer there is no Law - but only Grace: Rom 6:14 "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." The believer lives a life in the grace of God - and his righteousness is not something earned by works/or following the law. The bible is very clear on this point. The believer is only justified by the blood of Christ.
You ask a good question...some of the answers you got really stink. Hope this helps. God bless.

the 1st Christians have been Jews. They went to temple or synagogue on the Sabbath (Saturday) with fellow Jews. Then they accumulated on the 1st day of the week, the day on which Jesus rose from the ineffective (Sunday), with fellow Christians to tell memories of Jesus and share Eucharist. Later Gentiles joined Christianity. The Apostles, crammed with the Holy Spirit, desperate that the Gentiles did no longer ought to covert to Judaism. as a result, they simply attended on Sundays and did no longer ought to abide by way of Jewish nutritional regulations. Christians have self assurance that Jesus' Resurrection has replaced the Lord's Day to Sunday. This has been the prepare ever when you consider that. With love in Christ.

It shows that you are ignorant of the Bible's teachings. The 10 commandments were given to show us God's standard of morality demanded of mankind. In the absence of laws you would never know how far you have deviated. Without laws you would never know what is sin. The law is a school teacher to point us to Christ. The law exposes our sin. The law is there to judge us. The law condemns us because we fail to obey it. But in Christ there is redemption and salvation because Jesus fulfilled them perfectly. Which part of God's commandments do you find fault with? Man has the freedom to obey or disobey. Do you find fault with free will, attended to by its consequences? Or would you rather that you are not free to choose?

Most every society that outlawed the ten commandments went back to the law. Paul's churches that he set up were taught apart from the law and he was concerned when most went back to follow the ten commandments.

Yes the General would be a failure. But if the General's character spells love. If he can show mercy and grace and if willing to lay down his life for his friends? Then that is another story. ....But God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
