Are Christians who are pro-gay rights exercising independent judgement?

We need look no further than 1 Corinthians 6:9 where it states that gay people will not inherit the kingdom of GOd, we read in Leviticus 18:22 that gay sex is an abomination to God.

Now, I'm married to a Catholic woman, whose brother is a gay man.

My wife is exercising independent judgement of the Bible in supporting gay rights.

I applaud my wife in this decision.

So, is it possible that there are other Christians, who have a conscience and don't get their morality or politics from the Bible?

Because... surprisingly enough... some Christians can think for themselves.

BTW... you're REALLY married to a Catholic woman? I wish more religious folk were like your wife. My mother friend (who is a born-again Christian) has DISOWNED her gay brother. She doesn't consider him family, she doesn't speak to him, she doesn't acknowledge the loving, committed relationship he has with his partner of 15+ years.

It makes me very sad.

Woah now, I don't know any Christians who support feminism. I certainly don't. Feminism creates the idea that if women want to be viewed as equal, they should be able to do everything a man can. I totally disagree with this. The Bible does NOT clearly imply that women are inferior to men. Men and women are created by God with specific roles. True, the Bible says that men are best suited for leadership (whether it be in their church or in their household), but women play an equally important role. We are the helpers, the nurturers. That doesn't in anyway make us inferior, and I don't know any Christian man, or pastor, for that matter, who thinks that. Christians don't support gay marriage because the Bible clearly states that homosexuality is a sin. You ask how I would feel if I lived in a gay community and they told me not to practice my faith. Well, it goes both ways. Why should the Christian church be forced to perform gay marriage if it is a violation of our faith? A gay couple doesn't have to be married in a Christian church. Do what you like. Not everyone is going to be okay with it. Funny, isn't that what being a Christian is like? As far as gay rights go, I am totally against the whole "God hates fag" nonsense. We're ALL sinners, just as we are all HUMANS. You can disagree with someone's life choices and still love them.

The best way to make my point is to simply ask you to review history when groups of people added to, took away from, and altered the Bible.
So your brother n law is gay. Fine. I was an Atheist Pagan Wiccan Shaman Satanist Alcoholic Dug addict that wanted to have sex with every woman I saw. Which of these shall we condone and use independent judgment for? I would like to bring back at least two of them. I also have answered questions on Yahoo where people were actually trying to justify pedophilia by saying it was a sexual preference. So why not independently judge them? Homosexuality is no worse then disrespecting your parents or being pridefull but let's not rewrite the Bible OK?
IMHO
May GOD richly bless you.

I am a christian and have a close family member that is gay. I do not believe in his lifestyle, nor do I support it, but I also do not judge him for it either. Yes, it is true the bible clearly speaks against homosexuality. For all of you out there who say that most of the bible is just a myth or that it's just stories, I feel sorry for you. And why is it that we believe all history books and lessons that they teach in schools everyday, yet we can't grasp the idea that the bible is just another history book with real events and real people? Is it because we can't wrap our minds around the miraculous things that happened so instead of just having faith ( because that's scary to most) we just pretend like it never happened in the first place?!!

Sorry...anyways, I think that supporting a homosexual is a sin against God. However, I do not think that God hates them or that we should hate them. I think we leave the judging up to God.

I think it important to remember that the Bible was written in a time when things such as insurance benefits and the right to make health care decisions for a partner were not an issue. Whether or not we agree with homosexuality, is it fair for us to deny the same rights that others in a commited relationship have? I consider myself a Christian , however the Bible also tells us that women should not be members of the cleregy, which may have made sense in a time when women were not educated or considered equal to men but does not make sense to me now. Just as we have ammended or Constitution to keep with the times perhaps we can make some adjustments to what may have made sense then but doesn't now.

I believe in the bible and the bible only. How can one support something that they know is detestable to God. You can not claim to be a Christian and do the opposite of what the bible says. It is going against Gods words.

People, some Christians included, like to pick and choose parts of the Bible to follow. It is not my place to judge or hate gays, but I do not agree with the lifestyle they have chosen.

Some Christians believe in the separation of chuch and state. The state grants rights. Gay people are citizens as much as anyone else. They deserve rights.

Jim_Darwin,
What a wonderful thing that the Grace of God is! It is true that the ones that are in their sins are not going to recieve heaven as a gift, homosexual or not. But those that in faith of Him are the only ones destined for that great gift.

How about that! Just get's you in the heart, doesn't it?

"Judge ye not"!

That, be in the Bible. I do not need to be told by the Bible, or anything else, to know judging gays and not allowing them the rights as every other individual, is morally wrong to me.

There are times in this life, we "must" stand by our fellow man/women and be counted.........and that, is our Christian duty!
