This summer me and my Mom are going to be with my Dad for a year, after grauation. I really am excited, except not only does that mean I'm leaving my friends for a year, I'm lgoing to have give away my dog. I don't want to, but how could she ...Dad doesn't want her to come. It does limit things you can do, and yeah, it wouldn't work...and I'm allergic, Stupid, I know. Its just I love her, and I don't want to lose her. I don't know what else to say. I worked hard to get her.

Liz, do you have a friend that is willing to take your dog for a year? Or maybe your mom has a friend? I don't think it is stupid at all that you love your dog even if you are allergic. This will be one of the toughest things you will go through once the dog is gone. It is like losing a friend.

Ask around and see if anyone will help you and see if you can get her back after a year.

Good Luck and Take Care

You could ask a friend to watch your dog but then if they take good care of her they will fall in love with her to. How could you then take the dog from them and how would the dog feel after a year of living with a loving person.

Why does he not want the dog there? Sounds like he doen't care much about you and your feelings. Try to find ;someone to foster her for you (you pay for food, vet bills etc) for the time you will be gone. How old is the dog and how long have you had her.
Guess you could look for someone to foster you and the dog. Good luck !!!

A dog is a family member when it is part of your human pack. It is like giving up a child. You should tell your dad what the dog means to you. Personally, I would choose the dog over my human family anyway. Dogs are always glad to see you and do not judge or hold grudges against you. They love you unconditionally and teach us how to care for others. If you do not see this, then get rid of the dog. It will be better off without you in the care of someone who will love it unconditionally back.

Tough decision, any family members who could take her for that year? You are a caring soul but you also have to think about your future, if you are just graduating you have a life time ahead of you to spend with a furry friend.

Aww, i'm going to have the same dilema...I'd get, like the other people have said, a girlfriend or maybe even another family member to watch her for the year or two your gone...or maybe even see if you can get her to someone's house close to your dad's? that way you can still see her!

See if a friend or relative will keep her for the year you'll be gone.
