I have a Linux installation CD. And Windows XP SP 2 installed on my comp and have 2 partitions. When I pop the CD in the CD drive and restart the comp, Windows XP starts loading without the Linux installation screen showing. It does not even give me the option of wheather I want to boot from the CD. Is there any key you need to press to boot from a CD hile your comp is starting. Please Help!

yes, it's located in the bios, you have to make sure you make cd-rom as the first in the list. depending on what type of computer it is, dell usually is f12, it tells you when it starts up but other system might be the delete key.

You do not have to boot from your CD, You just need both operating systems installed on different partitions or disks

Install Linux first and then install Windows. Also, look up Linux DUAL BOOT on the Internet for additional clues.

This is a bit confusing, so pay attention :) When your comptuer starts, the hardware that decides whick thing to boot from is called the BIOS. The very first screen when your comptuer starts shows a button to get to the settings. Most of the time, it id Delete or another button. Restart your comptuer, and find that button. When you finally see it (it may take a few tries), press it when your computer starts. Then, using the arrow keys on the keyboard (not the mouse) move through the BIOS settings and find a setting called Boot Order. Make sure your CD Drive is at the top.

You BIOS may say to boot the disk first. To get at the BIOS, type any or all of the following keys while the system is booting:
( F1 F2 DEL ESC ) It varies with manufacturer. When you get into the BIOS, look for Boot Sequence, you want to put the CD before the hard drive.

If you are trying to boot Linux from the CD, then change in your BIOS to have the CD drive as the first location to boot from.

You need to go into your BIOS setup (normally) and set the CD drive as the first boot device. On most computers you have to press F1 or DEL during the initial boot sequence (POST) to get into the BIOS settings screens.
