I've been friends with this guy for over a year. It started out purely as a great friendship but we've steadily become closer, especially the last 2 months. I've liked him for a while now, but the friendship is so great, I definitely don't want to ruin it if he doesn't feel the same way (and if he doesn't, his knowing will definitely ruin things). I have never pushed things, each time we got closer, it was by his taking it to the next level and doing things that seemed to show interest. So I don't mind being patient to see where this goes, but it would be great to know if our relationship is leaning more toward romance or staying close friends. Some days I'm dead sure he's interested, and other days are just great friendship days but disappointing that he didn't specifically show any attraction. Just leveling with him isn't an option (for now), so what are the signs he's just my friend versus the signs he's building toward romance?

I think when guys are interested they show it. Its usually very obvious. I would say the best thing to do is wait it out. If he wants to be with you, then he will eventually make a move. If not, then I suppose a frienship was all it was meant to be. He might be scared about ruining your friendship as well, and thats why his hints so far have been subtle. If this is the case, don't rush it! I know its so easy to get impatient and want things to start now, but usually its not worth it. Take heart that both of you are probably seriously thinking this through. If you do end up having a relationship, it will be one worth having because both of you have put in so much effort so far. Good Luck!

If you're just hanging out, wrestling around stuff like that it's a good friend.
When you start noticing him giving you long looks, doing extra sweet things out of the ordinary, that could be signs of romance.

accept what happens and let it roll at it's own pace

An important thing to remember is lust and sex are NOT love. If he respects you and doesn't pressure you for sex chances are he cares for you. A friend is a good thing to have and the best possible future husband. Save sex, petting, kissing and hugging until you marry.
