The math doesn't add up, when did Jesus abolish slavery.

It seems to me like Christians are exercising their own independent thought.

(1) There are many flaws in interpretations of most religions.
(2) Christianity evolved around the time when slavery was considered normal across almost all countries adhering to religious faiths prevalent in their territories and times.
(3) I don't know that Jesus owned slaves or that he was in a position of power when he was alive to able to abolish anything. His was a language of love, not power, but then I am not Christian or of Christian descent to be able to speak with authority on Jesus.

A digression
A religion has to be flexible and change with time to suit particular situations that are 'normal to the times'. Unfortunately, two of the youngest major religions in the world-Christianity happens to be one and Islam the other are not changing fast enough and are major proponents of acts that are harmful to humanity in general - terrorist acts for example. Not that terrorists haven't sprung from other faiths, but there are presently more Christian and Muslim descent terrorists than from other religion, I think.

Which law of God are you referring to that mandates that slavery should be the order of things? If you can cite such a law, then you can rightly accuse Christians of going against God's law by abolishing slavery. Secondly, you should read up on slavery during those times. If you are equating slavery then with the America black slavery, then you are very wrong. Thirdly, Jesus did not come 2000 years ago to reorder society (He would do that in His second coming), His first coming was to effect redemption for sinners. Lastly, what the Christians later did by being successful in abolishing slavery was very consistent with the whole tenor of the Christian Bible, if you have ever read the Bible and understood its teachings.

Where is it recorded in God's law to establish slavery?
Chatel slavery....the form of slavery practiced in the American south was opposed because of its absolute barbarity, cruelty, and depravity. The concept of treating human beings like that became intolerable to the majority of the people of this country. Even without that slavery is inconsistent with the "golden rule" most Christians believe and is therefore eventually doomed in a Christian society.
To be more direct....Jesus in effect abolished slavery with the golden rule.....do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I don't think it was a "law" to own slaves, per se...

And I don't think it was Christianity that motivated people to abolish slavery. In fact The Bible was one of the biggest "defenses" for slavery in the US while it was still going on.

It was human compassion and dignity and a sense of justice and equality that set the slaves free, not Christians rebelling against their God-given right to own slaves.

God permitted divorse, but GOd says I HATE DIVORSE.. permitting and apprvoving not the same

slavery based on kidnapping as it was in the americas or based on cuelty to people is clearly wrong and kidnapping a calpital crime in the torah

the dred scott case of declaring a slave to be not a man made in god's image is clearly wrong

It is no surprize it was Christians who did in slavery

SIlence does not mean approval and does nto indicate Jesus thought slavery was a a pattern to approve, but conside this Jesus became a slave, God himself said he would be valued at the price of a cheap slave at 30 pieces of silver in a remarkable prophesy Sp perhaps you should let Jesus serve you on the cross by faith that you might serve God acceptably

Come on.
With the establishment of the new covenant, things have changed but Paul even wrote in his epistles(which are part of the new covenant) how slaves are to act to their masters and how their masters are to treat them.. And to clear up your sarcastic little thought Christians are to have free thought, GOD gave us free will to do as we want . See it was never GOD's law for slaver but mans, so man, Christian man fought for the freedom of the oppressed and here you are saying it's a bad thing.

Make sure you know we are going against one of GOD's laws and not mans before you ask anything like this.
slavery was never GOD's laws.

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

EDIT: Okay, I'll elaborate more. The Apostle wrote that believers are brothers and sisters, regardless of race, in the eyes of The LORD. I would fight to free slaves regardless, just like my forefathers did.

And as a bonus, here's another scripture. (I wear those "thumbs down" as a badge of honor considering the source.)

1 Corinthians 12:13-14, "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many."

because christians are hypocrites. they cherry pick the bible, using some scriptures to their benefit; always ignoring those scriptures that, if they followed them, would make their lives inconvenient; using some as weapons of hatred against others. ever notice that they enforce all the anti-gay scriptures, but all the other scriptures surrounding the anti-gay ones, they ignore? pretty cool, huh?
