Oh gosh don't give that to your two year old...I'm 17 years old and it was PAINFUL for me when I took lactulose...terrible gas pains and stomach pains. Your poor two year old will be in pain :( I reccomend milk of magnesia or miralax. They are both stool softeners with less side effects.

When my son was a baby, we had to use a suppository laxative because he was very constipated. I didn't know that we could give him something like that at such a young age, but when I called the doctor, that's what she told me to do. I would talk to your doctor and see what he/she recommends. I'm sure there are many child safe laxatives out there that your doctor can tell you about. I haven't seen any for children except the suppositories that I gave my son.

If the child is really impacted then I would use but a enema with soapy water should also do it (a child enema looks like a small baloon and end that can be safely inserted-pharmacy can direct you to the right one Also you can have the child eat some prunes or drink prune juice. Constipation is usually a sign of not enough roughage in the diet-vegetables are great but so is fruit esp apples and of course should also drink water

my daughter hates any kind of laxatives that goes in her butt so i give her a glass of prune juice instead and she usually goes poop the next day with out going all day like you would with a laxative.but if shes having tummy pains cause of not pooping i give her liquid gas drops for babys 6 months and to adult(its alot cheaper in walmarts brand that mylanta brand)and it has no taste what so ever(i taste of it myself).but if you want your 2 yr old to go soon as possable i would ask your childs dr for a laxative that they recommend since they know more than a pharmasist would.besides that hurts to a little kid sticking a laxative up their little butt anyways.

Lactulose is absolutely great for children. First of all, you can put it in their cup of juice at breakfast and, because of its sweet taste, they won't know they have been dosed. The best way to handle this is to start at one teaspoon in the cup and increase the dosage every three days until you see that the child is regular ever day. Don't hesitate to increase the dosage a bit over time, because you want the child to realize that when the feeling of needing to have a bowel movement comes over them, there really isn't any choice but to have it ;.... and soon. There is absolutely no danger of overdose because excess amounts are harmlessly expelled.

I would advice u not to use any laxative for now becos she is too young but u must check her diet and give her more fibre enriched foods and fruits. But for now u cld give the child a lubricant or wax oil that is edible to drink which will soften the stool and make it easy to pass out.

I personally never heard of it, but I would never give any kind of laxative to a child. You should find out the cause first, if its dietery (which it usually is milk products) or if there is some medical cause. Check with your doctor to rule out anything.

Good Luck :-)

Before you try any medicine products try dried fruits. A handful of mixed dried apricots, dates and sultanas every day will definitely get things moving. They make the stool really soft and if you eat more than a big handful, everything practically falls out (sorry to be gross), it makes going to the toilet really easy and painless for kids. I've always given my three-year-old apricots for this and never had a single problem.

whenever my children had a problem, my pediatrician told me to try mineral oil. now this is kind of like a thick, clear and oily solution. it has no taste but my kids would never take it for me. so, i use to put about a tablespoon in their bottle. it worked for my kids and they never knew anything. try to mix with a juice. milk turned pretty disgusting looking when the oil was added. good luck. oh...when our child finally has a bowel movement, don't be alarmed if it looks strange. the stool will appear very oily. this is ok. my doctor also said it wouldn't hurt to give them a tablespoon every now and then to try to keep them regular. again, good luck.

My sons pediatrician prescribed "Miralax" A laxative that I had to mix with his formula and it's tasteless. It worked really good. One dose and that was it. Needless to say, my husband was the one who found out how good it did work!!!
