The slogan, “Jobs Americans won’t do,” has now emerged as the presidential mantra for importing more foreign labor. The leader of the free world offers an assurance that Americans have graduated to a better life....

In fact, Americans do these jobs. Americans do these jobs with pride. Americans have thrived on these jobs over the centuries. The Americans doing these jobs don’t look any different. They wear the face of America. They do not shrink from work. Americans just resist enslaved wages and indecent working conditions. The soul of America is still found in our commitment to a work ethic. A presidential slogan to the contrary offends the soul of America.

In this country, there has developed such an overwhelming atmosphere of self-obsession and such a bloated demand for entitlements that I'm not altogether certian that many Americans would do those jobs.

My grandfather, before he died, used to say to me -- you can always tell the ones who will succeed in life. While the losers are demanding higher minimum wages, more benefits, more vacation, and more retirement, the winners will demand only one thing -- more work.

And he was right. If you look at some of these immigrants, even the ones who break the law and come here illegally (which is wrong, do not mistake me here), they do not complain, they do not grub for handouts, they do not whine, they do not slack off. What they do is work. they work hard, they work long hours and the take their work seriously. And as sad as it is to say, I look around and see less and less Americans every year who fit that description.

You're right, it IS insulting. And it's stupid, too. Fact is, the jobs Mexicans do are not jobs Americans don't WANT to do. They are jobs most Americans don't HAVE to do. There is a BIG difference.

I don't work at BK or scrub toilets because I don't HAVE to - I can find much better employment. HOWEVER, if the economy tanked today, and I had no option but to take a crap job like raking leaves or counting widgets, I would do it.

I wouldn't LIKE it, but I would still do it - because life goes on and bills have to be paid.

Love Jack

Honestly, most Americans won't do the minimum wage jobs, because it is easier to sit at home and collect welfare. Unfortunately, they make more on welfare.
When I was 18, I lived with a friend who had a 3 month old son. She was single, and had no one to help her but me. She worked part time at a buffet-style restaurant (she was only 17 and could not work full time under Ohio law) making $2 an hour plus tips. When she applied for welfare and food stamps for herself and her son, the woman we spoke with actually counseled her to quit her job. She would receive benefits in the amount of $350 a month (food stamps and rent monies) if she worked the job-where she brought home about $150 a month, but if she quit her job and didn't work at all, welfare would give her $975 worth of food stamps and monies. Of course, she quit her job.
If it is still this way with welfare, then I can understand why most low-income people stay at home on welfare, rather than getting a job. How can they expect to support even one child on minimum wage? Day care alone would take their whole paycheck.

You are really just trying to make a statement rather than asking a real question because it seems as though you are trying to use Yahoo Questions as a political platform. Get real. When was the last time you had someone other than an immigrant bus your table at a restaurant? Have you ever entered a commercial building after hours...the cleaning people are undoubtedly immigrants (legal or otherwise). People in this country have gotten lazy. It is much easier to get welfare, foodstamps, and WIC benefits than go to work. The people that come here from other places come to work hard and to better their lives; something many lower class Americans just complain about during commercials while they watch Jerry Springer at 2:00 in the afternoon.

Some of the answers you have gotten make me ill and should make most American Citizens ill !!!
She is exactly right about this ... there are NO jobs Americans Citizens will not do!!!!! I have scrubbed toilets, made peoples beds, cleaned their homes, looked after thier children, and grown and pick my own produce just to keep MY family's head above water so we did not starve or go homeless. I have lived in houses with no heat or plumbing and only a outhouse and a well in rural Virginia . I collected welfare for one month and hated it all the way when my mother had a stroke Her National overnight delivery company come to find out still considered her part time even though she worked more than 40 hrs a week. So she recieved no benifits at all they had the medical she payed for cover costs till she was stable enough to ship her to a medicaid bed available facility and that was it. The only thing ever recieved from them after that was a " If you do not call or show up for work within the next 24 hours you will be terminated" and this was one month after her stroke.
My husband and myself showed up when she had her stroke with our entire savings of over 20 thousand dollars it was gone the very next day for my mothers medical bills that where of course not covered as a so called deductable. After this is the one and only time this American ever signed up and recieved welfare and it was only for one month!!! I went out found a job and went to work and so did my husband we let ss know not to send us any more money and that we where employed. It was crap work at first but it was a paying job for both of us and that is all that mattered!! We did this so called crap work that people refer to as " only illegals will do" for 5 years just to feed our kids and put a roof over our heads. So for all the bozo's out there that think Americans will not do these jobs I say .... Go to Blazes ..... and you have NO CLUE WHAT U ARE TALKING ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO US AMERICANS IN THIS COUNTRY THAT ARE THE MIDDLE TO LOW INCOME HOUSEHOLDS!!!!

There was a crusty old guy sitting next to this knockout woman at a dinner party, and he asks her "Would you have sex with a total stranger for a million dollars?" and she thought a moment and said she would. Then he asked if she'd have sex with him for twenty dollars, and she got insulted and asked "What do you think I am?" to which he replied "We've already settled that. We're just haggling over the price."

There aren't many jobs in the world that people won't do, it's just a question of money.

most Americans have this thing called an "EDUCATION" and most don't want to pick tomatoes with a college degree! as for them only taking the jobs that we don't want? this is hog wash! I have seen them in jobs I would have loved to have, but I wasn't a minority so I was just out of luck. they are doing more than just plowing fields, they are working in Doctor's offices, in air conditioning, they are doing phone sales (with broken english) and many other jobs that require no sweat.

He is absolutely correct! What americans do you see working in sweat shops? What americans pick
cotton, climb trees to pick fruit or work for less than 4$ an hour?

They have a right to support their families just like we do. I hope they
all come over to the land of the free!
