Please look up the word eternal in Jude 1:7
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire
It is the exact same word. I don't see that fire burning forever. A fire burns until it has used up all it's fuel. Thus, the results of the fire are eternal in that there is no second chance. This is call eternal punishment, quite different from eternal punishing which goes on forever.
Eternal punishment is consistent with God's character. Eternal punishing is not.

Because eternal does mean in essence forever - everlasting - that makes very much make sense.
I think it is basically saying - that there will forever be people who don't believe in hell... ??? I don't know - just my interpretation in like 5 seconds! Or he is saying that you will be in hell forever.... upon death. I would be interested in the verses prior and after.

I know god is loving and strong ,and it seems uncharacteristic to send people to eternal hell when we are so weak .There is a lot of hellish things going on here on earth but heaven seems more the truth of Gods character.

You bet there is a hell and 80% of the worlds population is living in it right here on earth, war, violence, murders, starvation, atrocities unimaginable, it's the only hell you will ever see while your alive or dead.

But...how do you explain that the past tense of wind is the same as injuring someone...(wound)
It's not that I don't believe that hell is eternal...I don't believe hell exists.

It's not that I dispute the meaning of the word.
I dispute the idea of an insecure God that would allow a place like hell to exist.
The religion that taught you about hell is a lie that you were told about God.

See what the different translations say about hell
Compare these three scriptures.
Does the Bible say that the wicked go to hell?
Ps. 9:17, KJ: “The wicked shall be turned into hell,* and all the nations that forget God.” (*“Hell,” 9:18 in Dy; “death,” TEV; “the place of death,” Kx; “Sheol,” AS, RS, NE, JB, NW.)
Does the Bible also say that upright people go to hell?
Job 14:13, Dy: “[Job prayed:] Who will grant me this, that thou mayst protect me in hell,* and hide me till thy wrath pass, and appoint me a time when thou wilt remember me?” (God himself said that Job was “a man blameless and upright, fearing God and turning aside from bad.”—Job 1:8.) (*“The grave,” KJ; “the world of the dead,” TEV; “Sheol,” AS, RS, NE, JB, NW.)
Acts 2:25-27, KJ: “David speaketh concerning him [Jesus Christ], . . . Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell,* neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”
(The fact that God did not “leave” Jesus in hell implies that Jesus was in hell, or Hades, at least for a time, does it not?) (*“Hell,” Dy; “death,” NE; “the place of death,” Kx; “the world of the dead,” TEV; “Hades,” AS, RS, JB, NW.)
Satan has done a good job in making people believe in these lies.
