Breech of confidentiality would be telling or letting a person gain information about a child that was not theirs or of which they did not have legal custody or parental rights. It could be something as simple as a person finding out another child does not know all the letters of the alphabet or can't seem to be potty-trained. This does not only pertain to another parent. Technically, even telling another teacher something you know about a child would be breach of confidentiality if that teacher had no need to know; ie. gossip. Example: As a director you might need to know a child was HIV positive, however, the law will say the teachers do not have a need to know. They should follow proper sanitary procedures and therefore have no need to know something that personal.

A breach of confidentiality means that you told someone pertinent, identifying information about a child in your care. It could be their full name, information on their family (such as gossip about their family lifestyle), medical history (such as if they have Hepatitis or AIDS), diagnosis of a mental illness/disability, or other information from their personal files. Information about children in your care is to only be shared on a need-to-know basis with the people working with the child. If you have a staff of three in your classroom, then only those three people need to know information on that child. If there is another staff member who takes over in the afternoon, that person should have pertinent information only (such as if the child is a danger to themselves or others). This means that you can't even share information to a child's grandparent/uncle/aunt/big brother who regularly picks them up from school without the parent's consent. Confidentiality should be treated as if you are guarding a vault. Only people with the specific access code should be able to have that information. You can be sued for giving personal information to people who are not the parents of the child without their consent.

Do not tell anyone anything about anything, because it will always one way or another come back to haunt you.
.I am a provider and I have learned it is better to not say anything about anyone. Only to the parent of the child and always write it down.
P.S. People can be very mean at time. So be careful!!!!

I would think that it means that you tell people who do not work there things about the children.
Like their names, behaviors of specific kids, parent's jobs, and any other personal info to outside people. You are likely to have information about the kids and their families that the parents expect you to withhold from anyone from the outside.
Hope this helps a little.
