A person of any blood type who is RH - can not receive positive blood. My mother was this way. She got phone calls every other day asking her to donate her O- blood because it was so rare, and O- can be used by any negative person.

I assume you are talking about blood. The reason is because A+ red cells have something attached to it that will cause a blood clot if it is mixed with the antibody in the serum of someone with A-. This is confusing. If you IM me I can explain it better.

There are different types of blood, as indicated by the letter.
Human bodies in general tend to reject things that are foreign to them. Like when a body piercing slowly gets pushed out of the body because the metal is forgein. Or if you get a splinter, eventually your body will force it out because it sees it as a foreign object.
To donate blood to someone, you have to have the same type or their body will reject it. If the blood is to be used effectively, their body must accept it as its own.
Therefore, you need to have a matching type.
