Pumpkin is a fruit. Any plant grown that has seeds, is a fruit. Jalepeno's, tomato's, avacado's are also fruit's, although most people think of them as vegetable's. Even a banana has seeds.

By the way, to Janith, squash has seeds, it's a fruit.

To RIA, pumpkins grow on a vine, same as squash and, tomatoes. IT IS A FRUIT. Pumpkins grow on the ground, not from the ground, so do grapes, are you saying grapes are a vegetable? LOL

Fruits are usually the carrying vessels for seeds. So ask yourself. Do pumpkins have seeds? Yes. Therefore, a pumpkin is a fruit. So are tomatoes and cucumbers, zuchini and many other salad ingredients. Just because they go in a salad doesn't mean the yare a veggie.

It is a fruit, because it is a fruit of a plant. If you think about it, many veggies have seeds, so that description doesn't work.

It's in the squash family, so I'm pretty sure that makes it a veggie. Some countries serve it like one, too, diced and boiled and served with a little butter. It's quite nice that way.
