It is likely that it takes some time before the depo provera begins to take effect. Your medical professional should inform you about this when you get the shot. After the birth control becomes effective, it is extremely effective, over 99% I would expect.

Be sure you consult your medical professional or go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depo_Provera.

It's still possible to get pregnant even with the most effective birth control methods combined(the pill taken as prescribed and the man and women both wearing condoms), so there you go. I actually believe that birth control isn't as effective as it once was/we think it is, because 90% of the women I've known who've gotten pregnant over the past 6 years were all on birth control and were taking it as prescribed.

Out of all the bc methods this is the most likely to get pregnant on. I've known so many people to get pregnant on the shot b/c its a little confusing to know the exact date when u need to get a new one.
