Unless you got a tattoo with an obvious homosexual meaning or symbol, no tattoo, or tattoo placement looks 'gay'. These people are ignorant and ruled by their narrowminded upbringing, obviously.
Every girl will have a different opinion. My best advice...? Get it for yourself. Don't get a tattoo to impress anyone, that's not the point of tattoos. Not at all. Choose something you want, where you want it, and then talk to a tattoo artist about it, and try to design and place it properly so it would look good....!
Also keep in mind, that is a painful spot. Any spot with thin skin, many nerve endings, skin rigth on top of bones, more sensitive skin areas....etc.. are very painful. But if you're up to it, then go for it!
Well, horizontal or Verical? Well, depends on the design. I like the ones that go diagonally, like over the hipbone and towards the groin. It would be hot, especially if you have nice abs nearby...

Hip bones are usually where women get them. It is painful too, especially if you're thin! I am!
As a guy, you should get it not right on the hip bone but an inch and a half inside. Hell, it gives women a nice little peak.
If you do it, will you show us? Only if you're toned that is. No flab shots K?

A lower back is called a tramp stamp. It makes you look easy. And a hip bone, unless you're walking around in a thong or a bikini all the time, not that many people are going to see it. And, I would think that would look trashy, and make you look easy too.

Well, it's really up to you, but why a hip bone?
Why not a battleship or a wolf or skull or something?
But I gotta admit, I've never seen a tatoo of a hip bone before. Kinda original, actually.
