I'm a 14 year old girl and 5'6" tall. I weigh about 118, which isnt abnormally skinny..So why does my ribcage still stick out. I'm extremely insecure about it when I wear tight shirts and bathingsuits. Is there anyway to correct my protruding ribs without surgery or gaining weight to hide it?

Ive heard things about corsets that help force your ribcage to grow inward. Do these really exsist?

There are corsets that force your ribs to grow inward- but they also squish and damage your internal organs, and run the risk of a punctured lung. It would also work best if you had started at a very young age (well before puberty), so your ribs would have been deformed as you grew.

I'd suggest a healthy diet and exercise, to put on muscle weight (muscle weight is a good thing- look at ballet dancers, you don't have to be a bodybuilder). There's an exercise video by the New York Ballet- Barnes & Noble has it. Also, you're 14- most girls grow straight upwards dramatically in their early to mid teens, before they start to develop an hourglass figure ("fill out") in their late teens or early 20's.

The weight chart at: www.healthchecksystems.com/heightweightchart.htm says that a person of your height in 1" shoes, with your clothes on, should weigh between 123 to 136 pounds. Anorexia is 85% of the recommended weight which is about 105 to 116 pounds. According to the chart and that your ribs are sticking out, you are probably Anorexic and need to go immediately to the doctor to see if you have a problem with your weight.

Eat lots of calories and carbs or put on some muscles because it weights more than fat. GOOD LUCK!

You need to add the right kinds of weight. You need muscle tone.
