If there is such a thing. I love dark dreary days and the shorter days do not bother me. In fact, the sun and glare and brightness sometimes seems to set off anxiety and panic. I can drive better in the dark, it is more calmimg to me.Any studies on that?

Hi, Mich...

I don't like to drive in the dark, I have killed two deer and a dog in the dark, and I am scared to drive in the dark, but I totally understand what you mean about this winter coming. I feel better when it is cold out, as I hate the heat, I just feel so much more security and comfort when it is fall/winter. Have no idea why, and cannot answer your question about studies, but wanted you to know you have a twin!!! I hate the sun. I always have all my shades pulled, and I so desire privacy, I even lock the door in the daylight, my husband yells at me all the time...LOL!

I think it could be that our loved ones are not so busy, and we can gather around more, and see each other, spend more time with our hubby's, they are not fishing or hunting or golfing, or whatever. It just seems to bring us closer together for some reason...I am not glad that you suffer thru the summer, but I am glad that I found my twin. I thought I was the only one going thru this.

And, for people with SAD, they can get light boxes, which act like the sun, and it boosts their serotonin in their body, which makes them feel good and they are not depressed so much.

I really don't think the opposition has anything to do with the regular SAD, as we don't want sun to cheer us up...lol. You are wise to observe this. I hope you have a good winter...

I am right there with you on this one!
I also like cooler weather, even if accompanied by dreary, cloudy days or rain and snow. Excess brightness feels overwhelming to me.
I've never heard of a study and I do a lot of reading and Internet surfing for information.

Seasonal affective disorder is a depressive disorder. Anxiety is a different type of mental illness. If you are having these symptoms, it is a good idea to see why brightness triggers anxiety and panic. Good luck.
