I rescued this pit bull from being dumped on the freeway, and because of the area I live in i am afraid the local shelter will put him down. He was great yesturday but today is sleepy, and his side is sore. I don't have the money to take him into the emergency vets tonight. What can I do but keep him quite and warm on the couch?

this is not a good choice! CALL the E-vets: explain Ur circs, and ask them if they can do an eval, at least, for a minimum fee.

if he's in real trouble, U could have a dead dog before morning. :(

he needs steroids, if his brain is swelling - and there's nothing U can do at home to help him. he's a bully-breed, and Yes, they are stoic - they don't whine over a bump, or limp unless thay have a reason - but his BRAIN is just as tender as anybody else's!

please reconsider - at least *ask* the E-vet if they can help. U are a Good Samaritan, and they may have a slush-fund for street-strays in vet-need.
Best!

unfortunately, if you can't afford get the dog to the vet, keeping him quiet and warm is about all you can do. i wouldn't try to do anything medicinally b/c you don't know what could be wrong with him internally. is there someone else, a friend perhaps, who would be willing to pay for this dog to go to the vet?
i can't believe someone would be so stupid and insensitive to dump a dog on the freeway! you are a saint for taking the time to pick this dog up and give him some hope for a better life!

With a little discussion (with vet if you want to pay) but don't worry be happy, the dog won't know its got concussion.

How very very KIND of you to think of the poor animal that was so cruelly treated.. Yes. the best thing is to keep him quiet and bed rest if possible.. If you have a benedryl.. give it a Benedryl and it will help it to be drowsy.. You do deserve a medal !!!
