kb4ilb,
Well, you sound like me! I am a screwup. I desire to be closer to Him.
It looks like you have to know what to expect of Him. You don't know Him well enough because you are not in the scriptures enough. Who is your pastor? If you can't answer, you need one.
Let's see. . . . how about this one?

It's free listen to it and tell me what you think, okay?

You didn't mention if you are reading your Bible or not, but I would like to tell you that reading God's Word is very important in building and maintaining a relationship with Him. Just to let you know, everyone "screws up" and have weaknesses, and the Book of Romans tell us that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. But Romans also tell us that we are no longer slaves to sin, because we have become slaves to righteousness, His righteousness. I don't think that it is Satan preventing your closeness with God because nothing can separate us from the love of the Lord (also in Romans I believe). Satan can and does tempt us but we still have the free-will to decide if we are going to resist him or give in to him like Eve did in the Garden of Eden.
I don't know if I would pray for God to intervene because He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us almost like a conscious, and we need to put our faith into action by being spiritually sensitive to His promptings. Also, to not put ourselves in a position to be tempted by the enemy. For example, if I (being a female) had a weakness for lusting after the opposite sex I wouldn't go to watch topless guys play basketball, run track or whatever.
These are just some words of encouragement, stay Blessed!

You are not alone. We all sin and we all go through periods of weakness, so don't be to hard on yourself. You will be attacked more and more the closer you get to God. Just be aware of that. Keep praying, read the Bible, and strive to be pleasing to the Lord. It's a roadblock you can get over, with the help of God. He hears you and He loves you, just know that. Maybe he's testing your strength of faith, I don't know. The important thing is to continue in the word and He'll surely reveal His truth to you. God Bless.

We are ALL sinners saved by grace. We are going to mess up and lots ot times. Every time we do we need to ask forgiveness and God is faithful and just to forgive us. Your desire for God's closeness was put in you before you were ever concieved. God hears us EVERYTIME and forgives every time. Sometimes God backs off and lets us fall because just like little children we must learn the hard way sometimes. He NEVER leaves us and is ALWAYS there. As God's children we all have a mission here to fulfill and God will see us through to the end. I take it you are born again! If not you do not really belong to God. Ask him to forgive you of all your sins and ask Jesus to take over and live inside you. After you have done this then Welcome the Holy Spirit to come and live inside you. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman and will not come unless asked. Open your arms wide and invite Him to take control of your MIND, WILL, EMOTIONS & INTELLECT and to use them all to the glory of God. With the power of the Holy Spirit living inside of you, you now have the same power in you that Jesus had while He walked this earth. Through the Holy Spirit we can recieve the special gifts that God has for us (raise the dead, heal the sick etc.) We can do the work on this earth that Jesus did while He walked the earth. Join a solid Bible Church that can help you grow in the Spirit. Talk to the Holy Spirit and talk to Him often , He will help in EVERY situation. And only through the Holy Spirit can we defeat the tricks of Satan.

God helps no one who cannot help themselves....
You ever notice how some pro athletes, after winning the super bowl or breaking some record, will stand there and thank God for everything? Do you think those people just sat around on their butts every day eating twinkies and drinking pepsi? Or do you think they trained 16 hours a day 6 - 7 days a week?
Stop waiting on a god that is not there to give you direction in your life...take some time to look in the mirror and ask YOURSELF what it is that YOU have to do to make you feel better about yourself and your life.
You could lie in bed whining and crying and begging and pleading and praying for 24 hours a day and I guarantee you NOTHING in your life will change until YOU decide to make some changes yourself. If there is a god, I really doubt he/she/it is going to magically fix your life for you if you are so lazy or stupid that you expect God to just show up and hand you all of the answers to life's big question...you will be waiting until you die.
The only intervention you need is for YOU to realize that god does absolutely nothing for anyone...your life and where it goes is entirely up to you and you are the only one to blame if you cannot set yourself on a path that feels right.
Sorry to be so blunt....maybe you would rather hear this : Just keep sitting on your butt praying for god to do all of the work of living for you, it won't be long before god comes dancing along and fixes all of life's problems for you, just keep praying to that book....and soon your prayers will be answered and you will one morning wake up free of sin and with god there to hold your hand.
Yeah...uh huh, right...LOL

The bible says that not all men that call out O, Lord shall be saved. In order for God to hear your prayers you must first be saved by his grace. You must repent and forsake all of your sins, and you must ask God to fill you witht the his holy spirit. After you do this, if you are very sincere, God with fill you with the holy ghost and give you utterance, meaning you will speak in tongue. The next time you pray, try repeating over and over, "God fill me with the holy ghost." If you are truly sincere then God will save you.

You have been mislead into thinking of your self as a sinner.
You are not.
If you want to be close to God the I suggest you read the book a course in miracles.
It can get you closer to God than you ever imagined possible. You will need to be willing to give up the false teachings that are keeping you separate from God to achieve this transformation.
Thousands have done this, and you can too If you actually want what you are asking for.
Love and blessings Don

Maybe you should explore the concept of a godless world. If you don't wanna do that, talk to a priest or some other kind of holy man that your religion uses.
Whichever the case, DON'T drive yourself crazy! Don't you think that if there's a god, he'd be more worried about the murderers and child molesters to be like "Oh, that dude right there didn't go to church this week." He probably doesn't give a ****.

Congratulations, you're a Calvinist. You ARE weak and sinful, and just like me, a "dirty rag" before God, and that's very scriptural. It's only when you realize who you really are and what you really deserve, that you can figure out how much you depend on a God who loves and cares for you. Now go out and find other sinners like yourself that worship the risen Lord and celebrate what he has done for us.

There is no god, the sooner you realize that, the healthier you can be. Prayer is useless except as a kind of meditation for yourself.
6 million jews wondered where he was in the 1940's, thousands of people wondered where he was during Katrina, the tsunami, 9/11, in that school of the amish, etc... he never answered. Because he's not there.

The Salvation Prayer
If you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Savior simply pray the following prayer in faith and Jesus will be your Lord! Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus, Your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" and if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead thou shalt be saved" (Acts 2:21;Romans 10:9). You said my salvation would be the result of You Holy Spirit giving me new birth by coming to live in me (John 3:5-6,15,16; Romans 8:9-11) and that if I would ask, You would fill me with Your Spirit. I take You at Your Word. I confess that Jesus is Lord. And I believe in my heart that You raised Him form the dead, Thank You for coming into my heart, for giving me Your Holy Spirit as You have promised, and for being Lord over my life Amen!
