I watched a show on the History Channel a couple of weeks ago and it dealt with a Muslim woman on trail,... because her husband stated that she commited adultery.......
Now this woman had to face a council of Men and in doing so....she stated her innocence in this while the husband stated her guilt..
The Men of the council made her go through a test.....if you will....now this test was a dagger that was palced in a fire pit until red hot.....The head man on this council then told her to hold out her tounge and then placed the dagger on her tounge....oh lets say maybe about 3-5 seconds.....
Now after the dagger is taken off.....If the tounge is blistered then she is innocent.......If however her tounge is blistered then the husband is to behead her then and there.......
Now I know that things like this is done in alot of Religions....Like the Purtains...who Lord forgive me....Took those who where on trial and tied there hands and feet up and threw them in a pond...

If they lived then they where found gulity...however if the drowned then they where found innocent.......
Now my Question is
Do the Muslims have different Sects..
or do they follow all rules and all Muslims are the same and can practice all rules against on another........
Like all Religions
there are different Sects... that allow for this or that depending on the Sect.
Thank You for your time
and God Bless you all

Even if they did so, this is not a part of the religion and thus cannot be attributed to Islam.
Secondly, yes, Muslims have sects. Two major ones are Sunni and Shia. Sunni in turn are the majority of muslims. However, its important to note that both these sects have no disputes whatsoever as far as the Holy Book, the Quran is concerned.
The disputes are very minor. More than 90% of the practices are exactly same.
Normobrian, you are in right in one way and wrong in another way. Yes, Qur'an does oppose sects and division among muslims, but some muslims took this initiative and separated themselves from mainstream Islam. Especially when the Islamic empire expnaded some innovation creeped in and thus formed sects. If you see different sects, you will come to know that most of them are small and comprise of amalgamated Islamic and pagan beliefs. For example, rejecting predestination, attaining spirituality by way of another man (acquired from Buddhism) etc.
There is a saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that only the ones who follow his way and the way of his companions would attain success in the hereafter, which is to follow the Quran and Sunnah (the teachings of Muhammad) in their entirety.
The correct way is distinct if you read the Qur'an and study the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

That Pagan influences on a Court System. A dagger in fire, definitley not Islam. So people who want to controls others put old pagan traditions into the Society's Law. What they are doing is barbaric and disturbing. This is what the Islamic Laws says about women commiting Adultery:
[4:15] Those who commit adultery among your women, you must have four witnesses against them, from among you. If they do bear witness, then you shall keep such women in their homes until they die, or until GOD creates an exit for them.*
Footnote
[4:16] The couple who commits adultery shall be punished.* If they repent and reform, you shall leave them alone. GOD is Redeemer, Most Merciful.
[24:4] Those who accuse married women of adultery, then fail to produce four witnesses, you shall whip them eighty lashes, and do not accept any testimony from them; they are wicked.
*** The Quran says they are wicked. There are supposed to be four witnesses and if she says she is innocent you are supposed to leave her alone. and the lashes do not produce real marks. It is symbolic and meant to be embarassing. These people are not Muslim, but people who are wicked and Cursed by God.

I don't know where you get your information but here in the western world this sort of barbaric trial do not exist, if they do it is not called a religion at all it is called a cult, fanatics etc.
What sort of people would allow such a stupid rule to be governed by unless you were under oppression. We are not living in the dark ages where they burned a person and called them witches because they had a gift for being psychics.
Even in the days that Jesus walked the earth a woman was condemmed for the same crime and people were throwing stones at her, this is how they dealth with adulterers and sinners in that day, and when Jesus asked what she had done they told him and he looked at the woman and at the angry crowd and said to them, "those of you who are without sin throw the first stone", the woman bent in expectation of the flurry of stones but when Jesus approached her there was no one there but Jesus who helped her and told her your sin is forgiven, go and sin no more. Where is the compassion for the sinners that we are to learn from the greatest teacher to ever walk the earth. Where is the compassion, in this story, don't you see the evil that men do, that the women are being oppressed because they are women, not because of what they do, there was no test to prove the man's truth in what you say. It is pure oppression, and vengeance belongs to the Lord, not to us.

so if she is smart enough to hold a big wad of spit on her tongue she is innocent. That sounds much better than what I have seen go on our courtrooms. This job I had to go and testify about young mens progress often and always had to watch while they adjusted things so their friends got the money. At least no one profits and I might add that if a person had a choice between,, to stay with one who would actually behead them for the rest of a perhaps long life, and a quick death might it not be better to die???

This is a very interesting question. I hope there is a Muslim here to give an accurate answer. Well thought out, and well explained, seriously. If someone can't see the question in that, they didn't take the time to read it.

Isn't that exactly what the United States Military is in foreign countries trying to fight right now? Our soldiers are losing their lives everyday for narrow-minded rules like that

Those who belong to sects are not Muslims, per se. Sects are in direct contradiction to what the Qur'an says. It specifically tells Muslims not to divide among yourselves. Shiites, Sunnis, and whatever other sects there are are disobeying a command from the Qur'an.

not blistered and blistered? And, yes, there are alot of peoples, faiths, etc...that use 'tests' that seem ridiculuos. But they keep doing them for thousands of years. I don't think I have ever read of someone passing the test, though. It is sad
