I was wondering if received/will receive your G.E.D. or High School Diploma if your home schooled/your child is/or a teacher? Also, do you think people with their G.E.D. are looked at differently than with a diploma on resumes?

My child is home schooled but belongs to a government funded program that keeps track of transcripts. We are required to turn in lesson plans and my son will have to take standardized tests when he is in 3rd grade. But when he is finished with his schooling he will receive a diploma. This agency is an accredited program so his diploma is just as valid as any high school diploma.

It doesn't matter anyway. Even home schooled kids with G.E.Ds are being sought after by the countries top Universities.

Your first question is so filled with "/" that I can't really figure out what the question is. What it seems to be asking is "I was wondering if you will receive your GED or High School Diploma if your homeschooled child is a teacher?" But that doesn't make any sense to me.

In any case, a diploma is preferable to a GED. The GED just has a certain stigma to it, I think especially for a homeschooled child. Find out the regulations where you live about homeschooled kids getting diplomas. Here in Canada, the diplomas are issued by the province, not by the parents, but I understand that it's different in the US.

A diploma from your "home school" is just as legitimate as a high school diploma. All one needs to do is keep transcripts, a log of volunteer activities, extra-curricula activities, etc. All one needs to do is find out credits needed to graduate high school and put in the required hours per subject. My 12 yo wants to dual enroll at 16, he'll be earning both college and high school credits.

If you are wanting more of a formal peice of paper that states you are qualified to enter college than GED is for you. I think some people see G.E.D. and automatically asume they could not cope in a highschool setting, but for homeschoolers I think it would be different.
