First of all, if you want career options in math, physics or chemistry -- you are going to have to do quite a bit of work to IMPROVE your writing skills -- because TECHNICAL WRITING is a BIG part of the process of any careers with emphasis in these areas --

This means everything from writing your Hypothesis, to your experimental procedures, to developing your tables to record observations, to compiling the data (and explaining the HOW of why you chose to focus on these independent/dependent variables or the method of analysis), to the results -- WRITING INTENSIVE.

I am in agreement with "snglmom" here.

If you are really asking a serious question about your future, then my first advice would be for you to write like you ARE serious, ditching the "cybertalk" shorthand. In fact, make it a personal challenge to yourself to learn to write better and more articulate than the next person.

You may say to yourself, "gosh, 'snglmom' and 'calledkevinalot' really came down hard on me" but we are actually being kind; many professors will be much more stern. During my college days, we had to do a paper almost every day in English Composition, and the professor would fail one AUTOMATICALLY that had a comma splice, a run-on, or a sentence fragment!

(If you do not know what these are, you might want to find out.)

The reason that I seem to harp on this is that people (not to mention employers) tend to judge you on your ability to communicate effectively, of which good writing skills are key. Learning to write well will give you an edge over that "next person" I mentioned earlier -- it will mean the difference in getting into that good school, getting those good grades in class, and ultimately getting that good job over that "next person."
