What's the difference between yellow, chocolate, black and golden labs? What are the qualities of a lab? Is it a boring dog or else? Playful, energetic? what? please let me know.

Labs are great dogs!! We had two -- miss them terribly. We got them as pure bread puppies -- WARNING Labs like to chew and dig... both of ours were black labs. They were very energetic puppies -- loved to run... Ours never showed aggression or bit. We have 3 kids -- my youngest was 1yr at the time and he would pull tails, reach into the dog food bowl and try to ride them as he got bigger and NEVER were they anything but good and patient. We had to give one away because he kept digging out under the fence...we tried everything....pepper rocks extra boards -- nothing would stop him and then the other one would follow. We were joking about having a rescue my dog party because in one year they got out over 65 times....yeah we got tired of that. Our other Black Lab loved to play soccer. My husband brought home a sorta flat soccer ball and the dog claimed it as his. We could kick that ball into the yard and he would bring it back for us to kick again and again.

So overall good dogs -- keep in mind a couple of things -- fix them so they don't wander -- keep a kiddie pool for them to play in because they love water (we actually had a very big cement mixing tray from Home Depot that was 3x5ish and kept it filled with clean water -- he would drink, play and lay in it all the time) -- and keep anything that you don't want chewed on far away from them!!

I have had 2 dogs in my life, 16 years, and only recently have i been without. They were the best dogs i have ever seen by far. They are very energetic and very willing to do anything u are. In the color, it is a personal choice. I prefer golden labs the best but have owned a yellow as well. My opinion might not be the best because i have never owned any other dogs but labradors, but i have had friends with other dogs. And i would pick a lab out of any of the other dogs.

The color Chocolate is actually a mutation in the breed and with this, some of the common genetic disorders can pop up more frequently than with the yellow or black. Hip Dyplasia is a big one.

Labs are great dogs and make wonderful family pets if they get the proper training that works on good manners like not jumping on people and sitting when company arrives.

I agree also with the above stated about the children needing to be taught how to behave around a dog. Any dog can become nippy if a child is teasing or aggravating him/her. So not only does the dog need training, so will the children.

Well there is no such thing as a "Golden Lab" the Golden Retriever is a completely different breed.
The only difference between a black, yellow, or chocolate Lab is the color of their hair. All three will often be from the same litter.
And yes, they are a great dog for kids, but a little to much like a bull in a china shop for infants.

Labs are very smart dogs and normally good with kids. I can't say that is true for all Labs, depends on how they are raised. A dog is only boring if you are. They are very playful and energetic. They need to be walked 2x a day. They are big dogs and maybe not the best choice for small kids. I have a 7 year old boy and I let him walk our 8 month old Lab and she took off running and pulled him down and dragged him for a minute. Our dogs claws also scratch my son, no matter if I just clipped her or not. However, my son loves the dog and the dog is very loving toward him. They play together all the time. As my son gets a little older , He will be able to walk her. We love our Lab, she listens very well, very smart dog. Very Trainable.

Yes, Labradors are good. But there is such thing as a golden labrador which are the intelligent ones right next to the golden retrievers. These type of dogs are loyal and kind. Yes labradors are great too. They are really playful once they're puppies [watch out for bathroom tissues coming from your trash] .Also these type of dogs are easily trained, I saw one and I loved it, It knew how to swim, one I saw caught a fish and It's only 2 years old ! It can also fetch and run races [one won an award] . It doesn't matter of what colour you get, but also the golden is the popular type. But most want black so their fur won't be easily noticed when it's dirty or muddy . SO i hope my answer helped, hope you get a very playful and kind one.

I used to have a black lab, and I currently have a yellow lab. They are both pretty much the same in temperment, good with kids, yes. They are very playful, like to run a lot to get out excess energy. I have ran around playing with my dog and I must say that he ran me ragged. I also have a friend that has a chocolate lab and he too is very energetic and good with children. And they are also very easy to train. Hope you decide to get one. I say just pick your favorite color. Good luck!

yellow, chocolate and black labs are just the color of the dogs. the golden Labrador retriever isnt really a lab. but labs are very good dogs and obedient if you train them and give them a walk about every day.

Absolutely.
Labrador Retrievers are extremely intelligent, require almost no obedience training, and are extremely, extremely patient.

They love running and playing, kids, and other pets (dogs and cats included). For children, I would recommend a female.

So far as protecting them; woe be unto anyone who threatens the kids, because Labradors will defend them to the death (theirs or the intruders).

They're smart and obedient enough that they have largely displaced German Shepherds as drug and bomb-sniffing dogs, and are the number one breed in the Untied States. I had one for thirteen years, and every day was a joy.

Labs are good dogs. But for that matter any dog you get will be good if you raise it with your child . Remember socialization is the best.
