If you don't believe that there is a creator that you are morally obligated to obey, then your thinking is correct. There is absolutely no purpose to life. However, this is a huge assumption on your part that you are correct, and in my opinion, a false one.

simply put dont think,do something ,help someone else ,like build a house for the local habitat or help load groceries at a food center like a church that feedsthe poor,,and this way the thoughts of mortality and the endless nothingness of space wont intrude upon the front of the brain as much an when time comes to die you leave behind folkes that have good hearted memories of your life and they can say ,like your children ,my dad helped to build a house for that poor family theres a form of immortality in children and concrete and so on,it may help you to get outside your own mind and see the others minds for a while,,thats why im here,an old soul

The purpose of life is to evolve and learn. We grow as spirits. To do this, we must learn from our mistakes and do what we can to help others. I highly recommend books by Dr. Wayne Dyer or Alan Cohen. Neither of them are preaching a specific God or Religion but they both give meaning to life. (The Q&A section on Alancohen.com is pretty good too.)

Well, if this is the only life you're going to have, enjoy it. Find a career that you enjoy. Mine is interesting, I meet cool people, I get lots of time off, and I get to travel often. Sure, no huge purpose to life, but see if you can't contribute something to society before you go.

Dude I am in the exact same place. In a few thousand years man may be gone completely. Then what? What will our purpose have been? We might be completely and totally gone.

We are created for God. We are His pleasure and we are put here to serve Him and worship Him.
Worry is a sign of fear.. Some fear is normal. Yours are out of hand. (You said so yourself) Get involved in church and get a better relationship with your Creator and your fears will subside.

Kal-el,
I haven't stopped thinking. Sometimes you can find things out that other people overlook by being inquisitive.
