Does the Alphabet need to be in order?

I keep thinking that it doesn't need to be. States are not in order. The only reason that people can't think about it is because of alphabetical order. There could be a system like the dewey decimal system to sort instead. As a TOK student this is all i think about.

the alphabet need to be in order so the dictionary and phone book are efficient to use.

i dont think it needs to but its better to b alphabetical order because it wont confuse people...
