We got a dog from the pound, she is 2 years old, and we have had her for 3 days now. She is a pretty good dog, but has been acting a bit under the weather. At first, I thought her mild temperment was because she has been through a lot (she was in the pound for at least 3 month... (poor thing!), she had puppies last month that were taken away from her earlier, and she was spayed last Friday... all that plus who knows what she went through before this all!) Anyway, she had an accident on the carpet, which in this case is good, because my carpet is light, and I can see where there is a slight tinge to her urine, and there is some blood in her urine.

I have made an appointment with the vet, however, I would like an answer from someone who might have some insight now, if anything, to calm my own nerves before the vet can see her.

Thanks!

Don't panic....I certainly can't diagnose without seeing her and doing a urinalysis, but with the history and symptoms you gave, it's probably just a minor bladder or urinary tract infection...just like we women get. :-) It can probably be easily cleared up with antibiotics.

There are several other potential causes of blood in the urine, but there is no sense worrying yourself about those....since they are not likely with the history you gave. (I'm assuming she was tested and found to be negative for heartworms?) At 5 days post-op, it's highly unlikely that this is related to the surgery.

There are many possible causes, most are minor and are of no great concern. Kidney stones do form and as they move along the ureters, they abrade them and there is a slight discarge of blood...usually the animal will have had a lot of discomfort. Kidney stones are often the result of inadequate supply of fluid, so make sure she has plenty of water to drink. Some kidney infections cause bleeding and if she is out of sorts, it is a possibility. Bladder infections seldom cause much bleeding.
Spaying usually is done very carefully and there is no leakage of blood, but it is still a possibility. Normal urine does contain a few red blood cells, however, the number is very small and invisible to the naked eye. A great deal of information can be gained by examining the conjunctiva..lining of the eye lids and if it is a normal pink, then there has been no significant blood loss. Examine her eyes, are they clear and bright or do they look apathetic? Is there any discomfort as she moves around...does she walk normally? I suspect that this is related to the spaying...and probably a minor concern only. However, do be careful about the types of food offered to your pet, some can cause urinary problems.

I had the same thing happen with my dog...but she wasn't fixed. and it turned out to be a unitary tract infection. My guess is most likely that's what it is! Specially if she's been under the weather! Make sure she drinks LOTS and LOTS of water till the Vet Apt!

There are many many reasons for blood in the urine. It could be just a UTI. I would not worry yourself to death about it. But, be sure to keep your vet appointment. And I would get her in to the vet asap because it is uncomfortable for the dog. Hope this helps you.

urinary tract infection probably. Sometimes after females are spayed they can get a urinary tract infection. To help your vet out you may want to try to catch a urine sample to take with you so your vet can check it.

if your appointment isn't soon, call them tomorrow and see if you can make it in tomorrow, she has a urinary tract infection, or it could also be an infection from her surgery, and if for some reason it is not that it is something very serious, i would try to keep her lying down and take a hand towel and soak it in hot water and lay it across her belly it will help her calm her nerves, best of luck

I'd say a kidney problem. The kidney is meant to filter blood out of the urine. If something is wrong with the kidney then blood could filter threw. Also, sometimes a high blood pressure can cause unwanted items to be shoved threw the kidneys, making them appear in the urine. This happens sometimes with glucose, so I'm assuming it could also happen with blood. My recommendations is to just take it to the vet :) Good luck.

Blood in the urine can come from any condition that results in infection, inflammation, or injury to the urinary system

It would be normal for some bleedin if she had pups recently.
She will get back to normal.
She probably needs stuff animals to play with and maybe a bone to chew on.
The vet will just charge u and tell u the same stuff i just told u perhaps.
Your dog just needs love, toys, and relaxation.
