JUST as soon as he get picked up after you marry an illegal depends how fast ICE can get some agents to come and make the arrest we are in the 21st century there not supposed be no dumb asses anymore he will be arrested and deported the way it should be there is no way a round it so get used to being without him for time to come

Once you get the letter from the Visa department stating that your paperwork was approved then you can apply for an "advanced parole documents" which let you leave the US for "emergencies". I believe the form is a I-797, but I'm guessing.
The process starts by the filing of the I-130 immediate relative petition.

once he gets his greencard he can travel. otherwise, he'll be banned from entering the US for 3-10 years depending on how long he's been here illegally.

Can't really go anywhere until you at least get them a visa. That means getting them legalized.
