my persian kitten is turning 4 months in about a week from now.... i got her from a breeder when she was 3 months old. the breeder said that she is feeding her with IAMS and that i shouldnt alter her cat food for she may not get used to it or even so, have diarrhea from it. They say that dry and wet cat food is just the same... i wanted to give her et cat food for treat but im afraid she mioght have the runs since she hasnt eaten wet cat food, not a single time. Whiskas has both wet and dry varieties, whereas IAMs, in my area doesnt have the wet variety, only the fry one. If my kitten is so used to IAMS and i try giving her whiskas' wet variety cat food, will there be any problems? even if she only eats dry food now, she constantly drinks water which is why i dont worry that much about dehydration..

Don't feed Whiskas. Stick with Iams, it is a perfectly good food. I have four cats and three dogs and all eat Iams brand, and they literally glow with health.
I wouldn't worry about giving your kitten any canned food. She will be just fine on her Iams kitten dry food. Canned food is, after all, mostly water. That can be good in some circumstances, but with a healthy kitten who drinks plenty of water there is no need for canned food. Plus, some cats enjoy the wet food so much that they become reluctant to eat their dry food.
If you want to give a treat, there's nothing wrong with the occasional kitty treat such as Pounce or other snacks like that. Or, a teeny bit of cheese or chicken, something like that, would be fine. Just be sure to keep treats to a minimum.
Or use treats for training--you can teach kitties such things as 'sit up' or 'beg', or even 'roll over' just for fun. Or you can give her a treat when she does something good, like use her scratching post, or whatever behavior you want to reward.
Stick with the good healthy dry diet and she'll be just fine. Have fun with your pretty kitty!

Whiskas and Iams are both inferior cat foods - both wet and dry. Get Natural Balance, Eagle Pack, Innova Evo, Solid Gold (Katzen Flocken), Nature's Variety, CA Natural, Nature's Logic, Wellness. There are so many good quality foods available now - and all the poor ones are in grocery stores.

You may have to go to a small, owner-operated pet store to find the better brands though I have found Wellness and Natural Balance in my local pet discount store.

You can always order any of these through petfooddirect.com too.

My cats, specifically the Siamese, do wonderful on Iams Original. They cannot tolerate the Innova and the other super premium diets. They get the rund and "sick" fur when they eat it for a while. Whiskas is not good however. Too much color and corn. If the cat has been fed Iams and does well on it, keep feeding it. It may not be the best food inthe world, but many cats do great on it and most do well with what they were raised on.

I would recommed a dry cat food if your cat does not have FLUTD problems. It is far easier to feed and has more nutrients in it than the wet. It does not spoil if left out and they cat can nibble and much all day long and that is better for the cat.
Iams is a much better food than Whiskas. My vet does not like the Whiskas and does not advocate feeding it. He does not like what is in it.
I personall like Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul.
It has no corn or wheat in it and meat is the first few ingredients. It also has no by products in it.
