I don't have any third party equipment hooked up, it's just the DVD player to the TV.

Are you playing Dolby Digital 5.1? Do you have a center speaker? If you do NOT have a center speaker, you must set up your DVD player or your A/V receiver so that it will send voice to the two main speakers, otherwise you will get almost no voice. Go to the setup menu; there should be a part that asks about your center speaker. If you don't have one, select "none". If you do have a center speaker, check to see that its volume is properly set. The DVD player or the A/V receiver (which ever is doing the Dolby 5.1 decoding) should supply test tones to all speakers and allow you to adjust their volume levels so they all sound the same. If you haven't done that, it could be your problem.

It sounds like all you need
to do is go into your DVD player's
display menu and change the surround
sound mode from 5.1 to stereo mode -and voila!

See your owner's manual if you are not sure how to do this.
