Uhh the reason he actually left the church was because he seduced that nun who latter on became his wife he didnt agree with some teachings of the church and paying your way out of hell ... wt? it was giving money for those in purgatory not hell .. ye it was pretty stupid to pay for it but the church messed up anyways so it effected the church ... but the church gained thousands of new members in the americas who converted out of free will after the miracle of Guadalupe so it evened things out now you should ask the protestants how there constant splitting up making new demoniations is effecting them..

He posted his protests on a German Church door for all to read..it started the reformation movement and the birth of Protestant religions. And the first of the Protestant Churches was Lutheran...in his name. He was excommunicated shortly after the posting.
